A Secret Consequence For The Viscount (The Society of Wicked Gentlemen, Book 4) (Mills & Boon Historical)

Having read and enjoyed earlier books in this multi-author series, I wanted to read this one to uncover the end of the mystery. What a shame that this was very much the weakest of the set.Ok, so I did find out what happened to the hero. But the mystery part was all rather abrupt, with lots of loose ends being simply acted upon with little prior investigation and then were just chopped off and abandoned with no further thinking, rather than being properly resolved. The character development was weak and the story rather disappointing, in that much was superficial and other parts just obvious and predictable. And this was not helped by the quite poor writing, which had numerous grammatical errors and lots of places where words were either inappropriate for the context or just invented. I got the impression that the author was trying to write in a style that she thinks will convey the Regency period: it didn't because it was just poor English. M&B editors are normally much better at ensuring that such errors are fixed before publication, so clearly someone slipped up.

Many years since I purchased a M&B book and it will be several more before I buy another. Very disjointed writing, poor character development and a reliance on sex scenes - all in all complete piffle!I skim read three or four pages at a time, just to get to the end. Beats me how the editors of these books think this type of writing is worth publishing!

I really enjoyed this book. I do like story's that carry on and was hoping there would be more but this was the last member of the group.

This was an interesting book where I was pulled in emotionally and read straight through to the end. I was impressed by the complex plot even though there were a couple of plot holes though they did not really disrupt the flow of the story. It was a second chance at love, a secret baby, attempted murder to steal a title, a mystery including a madman, and amnesia. Ms James’ ability to weave all these trops into a believable romance was truly well done. I greatly enjoyed reading this book. Thanks Ms James.

I was happy to come across the quartet of novels portraying the romantic exploits of four Regency-period gentlemen. This is the last in the quartet. Written by English authors all four of the novels give an excellent portrayal of life during the historical period in question. the romantic stories are very well told.

I had never read a book by this author but I was pleasantly surprised. The way she developed the story and characters was really great!! I would definitely recommend this book!

The story was ok, but I would highly recommended reading the other three books in the series before reading this one.
