Can this looked down on vampire prove her worth and win her man?
4.5 Stars! I’ve been on a Suzanne Wright benge the past couple of days, but decided to take a break from shifters and get my vampire on. Lol.Summary:When the vampire world is made up of three vampire breeds, each with their own strengths and weaknesses and your breed happens to be the low man on the totem pole, you don’t expect much. That’s why Samantha “Sam" Parker is stunned to learn she’s been chosen as a candidate to join The Grand High Master’s private army. She can also sort of understand if the scout saw her wield her gift. It’s strong, controlled, and unheard of in her breed. Having lived the last few years of her life under one man’s thumb, Sam jumps at the chance to try out and gain her freedom. Her excitement and anticipation soon dim upon finding out the legion has never included a woman or a Sventé vampire. The strong Pagori and beautiful Keja breeds feel that the Sventé are too tame and human-like to be a threat. Upon showing at the trials, Sam realizes that her acceptance into the elite army will be almost impossible, as no one takes her seriously. When she bumps heads with the sexy, arrogant, and sexist Commander Jared Michaels, she knows her chance at a better life was but a pipe dream. Luckily for Sam, though, the Grand High Master sees her strength and potential and offers her a position as Jared’s co-commander. Needless to say, Jared is less than pleased with the decision, but the newest squad of recruits have to be trained in record time in order to be ready for an attack on The Hollow. Sam will have to show Jared and their recruits just how dangerous it is to underestimate a stubborn, mercurial Sventé vampire. And when she bumps heads against Jared and sparks fly and tension ramps up, Sam will have to do everything in her power to keep from jumping the cocky bastard.I really loved this book, and I’m not quite sure what took me so long to read it. It’s been on my TBR since 2014, and I bought the ebook ages ago. I’m glad I finally did, though, because the storyline was fantastic, the world-building amazing, and the characters were aces. Sam is going on a list of my all-time favorite heroines. She was amazing; intelligent, funny, lethal, cunning, feisty, and strong. All of those attributes combined and balanced her vulnerability perfectly. I loved her confidence, her outspoken personality, and the care she took with training her squad. She could also use her gift like no other. SW has a way with her heroines, and I think Sam is among the top of the list of greats. Jared gave me fits. Goodness, could the man get any more sexist!? It drove me nuts when he opened his gorgeous mouth and something dumb came out. That said, he was a vampire (hello obsession) and a sexy, alpha male one at that. He could be arrogant and a lot close-minded, but he could also be funny and roguish. His position as Heir Apparent spoiled him for choice, and so he was a bit out of touch when it came to a woman that meant something to him. He came around, though. Together, the pages were barely able to contain Jared and Sam. The sexual tension was through the roof, and only built higher and higher as each page turned. Jared and Sam had a magnetic chemistry. They were undeniably drawn to each other, but neither wanted to be. Their resistance and vastly different views on a “woman’s place” only served to amp up the lust even more. Their banter was hilarious and sexy, too. I just loved them together. Overall, this was an enthralling read. I loved the vampire world SW dreamed up with the different breeds, gifts, and strengths/weaknesses. I can say that the description of some of the gifts was a bit tedious, reading like a dossier, when it might have been better for us to learn of them by experiencing them. The storyline was exciting and allowed for quite a bit of action. The fight scenes were pretty cool, and very well written. The supporting characters were interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing more of them, some with their own books. There is no cliffhanger, but I do feel this book is a sort of fade-to-black ending, so I’m definitely looking forward to more Sam and Jared. Book two is on my horizon. ♡

It’s an interesting story about Jared, Evan, and Sam
I am a fan of this author and have read most of her books on KU. This series just became available to me. I read the reviews and was puzzled by the negative reviews. They were mostly about the character’s immaturity and that this was more like a YA book with intimacy. Well I had to give this series a chance. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Yes, I do agree that they wear on your last nerves at times but what characters don’t when they are sparring against one another and their mutual attraction that they are trying hard to ignore. Sam ( Samantha) is a vampire that was manipulated in being stuck with the unscrupulous and sneaky Victor. However the Master Vampire Antonio and his right hand Sebastian has taken notice of Sam and want her to work for them in the legion. Sam wants to take this opportunity but fears victor’s wrath. The story begins there. . . Read On!

Great start to the trilogy :D
4.5-5 starsThis was a great story. I loved Sam and Jared started out being the guy you love to hate but soon grew on me as well. The story was interesting and I really liked the world this story is set in.Sam is a young vampire (only being a few years old). She was turned by a vampire she hated because he killed someone she cared about, kept her captive and then made her do things she didn't want to for years. Sam has done what she needs to to survive but isn't thrilled about her life (or should I say afterlife). Things change when a vamp named Sebastian comes to see Sam offering her a chance to find a place in the Grand High Master Vampire’s private army. Sam is unsure about the situation but decides to take the chance to escape her captor and maybe have a life where she'll make a difference in a good way.Jared is a master vamp and a Commander in the Grand High Master Vampire’s private army. He's also heir to Grand High Master and the position has gone to his head. Jared is an prideful, obnoxious, arrogant, sexist jerk when the story begins and he's got his head so far up his butt that he doesn't understand why his attitude is wrong. He has 3 "consorts" (vamp for a lover that they own in some way) and can't imagine that there's a woman out there that wouldn't want him.Sam comes to the try-out and the first person she sees while waiting is Jared. Jared shows his jerkiness by telling her to go home because no female has ever been accepted and she might as well give up now. After some more condescending and rather obnoxious remarks Jared leaves Sam to wait for the try-outs and she's not happy to see that Jared is one of the judges. Sam does great in the try-outs but Jared is too much of a sexist to accept her. He picks someone else over her but it's obvious to everyone in the try-out that she should have been the top pick but didn't get it because of Jared's pride and attitude instead of because of real merits. Jared is actually obnoxious enough to think that Sam would be willing to accept a spot as his consort after he screwed her out of her rightful place and then seems shocked when she looks at him with hate in her eyes. Jared's pride is hurt even more when the Grand High Master (who saw the try-out) decides he wants her working for him regardless of Jared's issues so he hires Sam as Jared's co-commander. Sam has a very rare vamp gift and an unusual control over her powers and the Grand High Master believes his new recruits could benefit from Sam's training for their gifts. Jared takes Sam being hired in as a co-commander very badly, basically acting like a sulky, spoiled little kid and does what he can to sabotage her efforts in training their squad. While the attraction between Sam and Jared is obvious to everyone, Sam wont give in to it because Jared is just too much of a jerk for her to deal with. Jared knows Sam wants him and he wants her so he can't understand why she just wont sleep with him. Sam tells him that she doesn't want a man with 3 consorts that he treats like furniture and wont be used like that but Jared just doesn't get it. That doesn't stop him from wanting Sam though and he doesn't make it easy for her to refuse him....until he puts his foot in his mouth about his sexist tenancies again as that certainly helps Sam fight the urge to be with him. And Sam is fighting the urges but she just couldn't live with herself if she slept with Jared while he's so adamantly acting like a jerk. Fortunately, Jared and Sam struggle their way to an understanding between them, both concerning the squad they're training as well as concerning more personal relations. And of course, just when things are going well, an attack from an enemy that's been expected comes early and there's some danger to get through. Jared and Sam come through things alright and ready to embark on their HEA...technically this should probably be considered an HFN since Sam and Jared's story continues in book #2 but if I hadn't known their story continued I'd have considered this ending to be a HEA.This was a really enjoyable story with great characters. I loved Sam from the start, she's a smart and strong woman that's been through hard times and does what she needs to to get by. Jared was the biggest jerk at the beginning of the story but he got better with time (and with Sam giving him no choice but to change his attitude) and by the end I was really liking him. The story line was great with a good combo of romance and conflict that kept things interesting and had me engaged until the end.I'm looking forward to reading book #2 (which I'll be starting immediately). I'd recommend this book. 2 thumbs up. :D

A Gripping Story and Excellent Start To This Paranormal Romance Series.
Suzanne Wright is a new-to-me author and I devoured this book; I loved her writing style, the pace she set for her story and the gripping plot-line. The characters she created were complex souls that exhibited all the traits that I crave. I love that this book made me feel so many emotions; yes, I did growl like a wild woman at times in frustration and shed a tear or two but I won't tell you how often or when. However, I also chuckled out loud as well causing many an odd stare. ;-)If you've read any of my reviews before, you will know that I enjoy a story more when the female main character is intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and has plenty of gumption. Oh goodness me Sam ticked all my boxes and then some, she also has a great sense of humour, sarkiness and an innate sense of right and wrong that I love. Yes, I was nervous that our leading male, Jared, was a sexist, prejudiced alpha stereotype that didn't deserve our protagonist but Wright did that on purpose so that we can see (and celebrate) his character growth. *phew*I downloaded the narration by Justine Eyre and P. J. Ochlan and enjoyed the variation that these actors brought to the duel point of view. My only criticism is that, to my English ear, Ochlan's version of Sam's London accent was rather reminiscent of Dick Van Dyke's in Mary Poppins. Here Be Sexist Vampires was a bloody good book and although I was anxious whether I was going to like it I have already downloaded books 2 and 3 through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.Due to the sexual scenes, colourful vocabulary and expletives throughout this story, I would recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this sort who love stories about kickass heroines and deserving alphas within the adult paranormal romance genre with story-lines about prejudice and fighting for what's right.

3.5 STARS
Sam (Samantha) belongs in the weakest of the three vampire races, but that doesn’t stop her from being one kickass vamp, what I loved about Sam was that she didn’t take BS from anyone and really showed those who underestimated her – Jared included.Jared at the start of this is anything but endearing, he’s a cocky and sexist with 3 mistresses who happily live together, welcoming him with open arms when he designs to visit them. Even though this was a re-read I still found myself disliking Jared for the first half of the book. I liked the fact that Sam didn’t just give into him.I have to say I think the stuff with Sam’s sire was touched on too superficially and I so wish he had suffered a tad more.Potential Triggers: Reference to rape - Sam’s sire used his powers to force her to want him.

A great read!
This is the first book that I ever read by Suzanne Wright and I’ve gone on to read everything she’s written to date. I would definitely recommend this series to a friend as it’s well written, contains a number of great characters and doesn’t ever get boring. The story is told from the perspective of both Sam and Jared with the narrative of the chapters shifting when necessary. You’ll come to love Sam, Jared (eventually), Fletcher and the gang, I’m sure. The characters are well rounded and very believable. Not only do we get to watch Sam grow throughout this book, but Jared, Chico, Slaphead and the gang too. It’s not a coming of age novel, but it is a novel in which almost all of the characters learn and grow in one way or another. The only real issue I have from this book – and it’s a very small one - is that you never find out just how long Luther has been waiting to meet Sam. I often wonder if he had a vision of her and if he did, what exactly his vision of her entailed. While this knowledge may not be necessary to enjoy the story, I for one would love to know the story (if there is one) behind the comment of; ‘It is a pleasure to meet you at last.’If you’re anything like me, you’ll adore the turbulent relationship Sam and Jared have. My favourite scene has to be the fight scene between the two of them. Will she earn her place in the Squad or will she be returning home due a certain dark haired, sexist vampire? You’ll have to read to find out. I promise you won’t regret it if you do.Quote: And then the insane bitch turned back into Houdini. ~ JaredSuggested Audience: Adult readers of Paranormal RomanceProfanity: FrequentSexual content: FrequentViolence: ModerateCautionary element(s): Psychological rape is a topic of conversation

Jarringly ungrammatical
I like this author. Her books are fun, edgy, focused, and have a lot of great dialogue, etc. But she does this thing where she switches past continuous and past perfect verbs for past simple verb forms which is jarring in every instance. My British partner swears that parts of London speak this way. I've lived in various parts of the U.K. for 12 years and never encountered it. I'm of the school that dialogue should be more grammatical than this for flow, but I'm willing to forgive this in a British character's dialogue and inner monologue. But NO Californian would ever speak or think this way, he'd be sent back to the first grade to try again, then put into speech therapy, then made to repeat English class every year . . . forever. This ungrammatical dialect appears in other books by this author with American characters and it is painfully disruptive to the flow every single time, but in this book it was used ad nauseam. I simply could not make it through a book that jolted me out of the story every second paragraph because the past perfect and past continuous tenses were so abused.

Spectacular 💖
This was one of the first books I read on the kindle and it wowed me then as much as it wowed me now. Sam is compassionate, powerful, witty, feisty, strong and an all round great lead character. Jarred is cocky, sweet and powerful and is just the man to tame sam I'm not sure another could handle her 😉. The relationship between the two is lovely they care deeply for each other without even knowing why and the bond between them keeps getting stronger and stronger. I loved all the other characters dogs and all my faves would have to be the squad those guys are just so lovely and sweet. The different types of vampires was refreshing plus they all have some pretty cool gifts and lots of different kinds it was just brilliant to read and learn more about them and wonder what different gift would pop up next. The friendship and relationships were beautiful everyone genuinely cares about everyone it's like a small close knit community well I suppose it is one. Oooohhh my most favorite part was the war it was intense to read and it was detailed very well you felt like you were right there with them holding your breath to see what would happens next. Suzanne Wright is a very talented writer that creates amazing worlds but most of all she has great depth to all her characters and storylines. Take it from me the next ones are just as breathtaking with so many twists and turns that have you shouting NO WAY DID THAT JUST HAPPEN 😱 I can't wait to read them all again. I would give you ten stars if I could Suzanne you definitely deserve them keep on writing all these amazing books.
