Q: Does this work with a thinkware dash cam?

Since this is essentially an extended battery to that of your car battery and it is essentially feeding any device that runs on 12v DC power… it should work to provided extended run time and automatic recharging when your car is running regardless to device connected. For example I could connect a radar detector to this which has nothing to do with a dash cam and it will power that radar detector until the power it holds is drained. Having said the aforementioned; you may not benefit from all of the ‘smart’ bluetooth functions with integration to the Blackvue products that you might get if this was connected to a blackvue camera. But if you are simply looking to extend the run time of your thinkware camera and not drain your car battery this will work just fine.

Q: What if i hard wired this to the battery of the car of course useing a fuse and set up a switch to turn it on and off for charging it.

If you hardwire this to your battery or even via the fuse box the way I did, I have found that if you swap the connection to the B-124X from the DC in port to the expansion port it might just give you the boost you need should your battery die. Providing it's fully charged. When I'm parked at home, I turn the Blackvue battery off, so in theory yes.

Q: Will this work for my non Blackvue camera? Also, can I hardwire it to constant power with a voltage regulator?

It will work with non BlackVue cameras. With regards to hardwiring to constant power, we would not recommend as the purpose of the battery pack is also to prevent wear and tear on your vehicle battery. wiring to the constant fuse would defeat that purpose.

Q: Does this drain car battery when off? Using cigarette port lighter

If installed properly it will not drain your battery when car is off. It charges while car is running and when you switch car off the circuit that feeds the battery pack is shut off. The battery pack will provide power to your dashcam till it is depleted (which might be a day) and then your dashcam will power down until you restart your car and it then recharges the battery pack and the cycle just repeats.

Support has been great

Update: Support sent me a new cord and that has fixed the issue. Thank you so much!Bought in March of 2023, it randomly stopped charging correctly throughout September of 2023 and died today October 3rd 2023.Used it since the first day I got it back in March. Contacted Blackvue and Blackvue won’t help, told me to contact the vendor. However here on Amazon, it says I am no longer allowed to return or exchange it ending up with a $330 junk of a paperweight.

Great product and worth the hefty price tag

I read up a lot about this battery and was skeptical after reading mixed reviews but finally pulled the trigger and bought it and I couldn't be happier. The hardwire install is very easy (finding the right fuse is the hardest part) and the unit fits snug under my seat. The unit itself is large but I realize that the electronics inside this pack are different because it reaches a full charge in 40 minutes. This battery powers my Blackvue DR900X-2ch flawlessly and I run a 4G hotspot device off the USB port. This unit is pricey in comparison to other battery systems but I do believe that it is in a league of its own. If you're looking for Parking mode on your dashcam without the fear of running your car battery flat then this is the way to go.
