Dark obsession indeed.
This book is not for the one's that get triggered with stalking, kidnapping and consent non consent. There is a HEA with a side of betrayal first. Did I like it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes. If you like a lot of spice in your books then have a read of this one, but please bear in mind the triggers, if you are triggered by any of the above.

Wow
This book makes you angry, cry and hot. Breaks your heart and then puts the pieces all back again. The flow of the writing and how the characters grow is so organic and natural.II feel in love with Rucac almost straight away. This book will tear your heart to shreds and then stitch them back together.

Beauty and the Beast Twist
This is definitely a dark twist on beauty and the beast and I really enjoyed it.I read it all within a few hours and wished it had a few more chapters.I did however think that a few bits of it was back and fourth with the whole stalking thing but I guess it's necessary for the plot.I read the second book in this series too (they don't link) and this one was my favourite🫶

Twisted devotion
As usual I read these the wrong way round, I like to read books out of order sometimes, and It didn’t ruin the order or the story of either books. This book doesn’t mention the next characters at all. This story reminded me at times of Beauty and the Beast, which is my all time favourite Disney story. We meet Emily who lives in a small cabin, tucked away by the mortuary, which she runs with her father. One evening her best friend Tess, asks to see a real unalive person, so Emily takes her up to mortuary after midnight, which is the time her father told her not to go.When they arrive they hear a noise, and Emily comes face to face with a tall, dark and tattooed man. He introduces himself as a ghost, and she rushes away. Now Emily feels like someone is watching her each night at her cabin, no matter how many times she looks out the windows and sees no one, the feeling is there.Ruarc runs a secret club for the most elite to do what they want, with who they want. He prides himself on the anonymity of the place.Sometimes the work he does requires people to be disposed of and he uses the mortuary not far from his home, one night he runs into a dark haired beauty, who captivates his attention. But Ruarc doesn’t get close to people, he keeps people at arms length. But something about Emily is bringing out a new side of Ruarc.

"If you're still with me, sit * down and turn that page like a good girl."
The story of Ruarc Monroe and Emily Snow, a quick light Sunday read with HEA.Emily is your typical grey mouse. Barely out of school, she lives in a small wooden cabin at the edge of the property which mainly houses the family funeral home. She grew up there only to take part in the family business alongside her father after her mother's passing, and as the heavy atmosphere followed her wherever she went her whole life, it formed her into the person she is today - quietly resilient, isolated but hopeful, and with not much else going on in her life other than work. Among all the corpses she feels she is the only one really dead. Alive but not quite living.Ruarc, the polar opposite, went through so much since he was born, it twisted him into the fearsome monster others see in him. A respected crime lord at the top of the food chain by day, and as we quickly find out, an obsessed stalker by night. In a coincidence that was simply bound to happen sooner or later, they collide one faithful night and the world tips on its axis for both of them."I wanted to ruin her. Ruin her so fully - so completely - that I was the only man who would ever know how to put her back together again."On barely four hundred pages the story is short and sweet. There is only so much world building and character development that can be done in such space but I don't think the book suffers for it.If you came for a quick light spicy read, for something to pass the time, or perhaps for a short reprieve between some other decidedly darker reads (like I did), then you won't be disappointed. The story flows surprisingly well despite being slightly disjointed at times. It's predictable making it enjoyably comforting in its own way - it won't rip your heart out with excruciating twists or a cruel ending befitting more of a psychological thriller than a fictional romance (I'm looking at you two: NK and LV!).It's more the grammatical errors that pulled me out of the moment, though mostly it's edited well. There are just pronouns missing here and there, and though it's easy to figure out what's happening from the context, it does break the spell a little.I cannot see any other books from this author, so unless she writes under another alias as well, I would assume it to be her first story - and if that's the case, then I cannot wait what else she comes up with as she polishes her skills writing more.I wouldn't really call this a dark romance. While the setting and the topic are likely to be dark for some (and as always, you should definitely check out the triggers if you have any), it sits firmly on the lighter side of the spectrum.I mean, yeah, sure, he's a stalker, and he kidnaps and kills people, but let's be honest here - we have seen villains indisputably more malicious and we managed to fall in love with them anyway.Where others are pondering about how wrong it all is, we're like 'bring it on, baby!'And strangely, that is actually a redeeming quality here. We see the author practically making fun of her own work as Emily devours the spicy books her friend gets for her. Her friend Tessa who works with authors of said filthy books. The author made a feature out of it and it's light-hearted, it's relatable, it's fun to have it woven into the story."Why do you like that stuff?""Honestly, just read it and you'll be into it too. I swear."On the other hand, there's a lot of lost potential. Both Ruarc and the spice are a bit meh.Don't get me wrong, Ruarc is ok but he could have been so much more. He is appreciatively possessive and domineering but even Emily herself figures out quickly that he always gives in when she pushes. We hear about Delirium and women needing to sign NDAs, apparently because of how kinky he is, but we see none of it. Granted, there are a few unusual scenes but nothing too outrageous. And with Emily falling in love with him almost immediately, it goes soft quickly. Almost instalove."When I told her I wanted everything, I didn't realise how deeply the meaning ran. I wanted her whole heart. I wanted her to love me like she would never love another person on this vile planet. When I was finished with her, I'd hand her the key to her freedom and I wanted her to drop it at my feet. I wanted her to stay."There is also a few loose ends. I would have liked to have understand Nixon's motivation a bit better. He hated Emily but I couldn't really figure out why. Touching her was the last straw, he said to Ruarc, by why? Did he know something we didn't, or was it just an excuse for an opportunist who wanted to get higher in the pecking order? Or was he just jealous? And what about Emily's father? What would he think if he knew what was really happening to his daughter while he was covering for her absence as not to attract any attention to the shady business? And how does he feel about her actually being with Ruarc?"An hour was gone before I knew it. Then two. My promise of just one more chapter turned into five as I devoured page after page of a romance story so dark it had me questioning my own morals."Having said all that, this was not a bad story by any means.Even if it wasn't quite that original, feeling a bit like Haunting Adeline copycat at times. And even if the smut was just a little too vanilla and a touch pathosy in the choice of words.I doubt I will reread it again but I will look for new releases from the author. As a quick, simple read for Sunday afternoon under the blanket with a glass of red it definitely scratches the itch.Good or bad, right or wrong, I had fun. In the end, that's all that matters."He was broken, jagged, and damaged but I didn't need him to be perfect. I didn't need a storybook romance. Not that kind of storybook, anyway."

I like the writing style
This book is worth the read. I stopped reading after the first chapter but glad I kept going & gave it a chance. Already read the second one which is a separate story but does sprinkle the characters from this book so it’s nice to read these in order, but not needed. Could have more bdsm but I find most smut under delivers on that (maybe I just need to find bdsm heavy books specifically). Overall I like this author and will be looking for their other releases!

A good ride
This is a story about twisted love, and extraordinary devotion although there is nothing original and the plot is pretty predictable it’s still enjoyable. I liked the setting, the possessive side of Ruarc was very appreciated, Emily was nice albeit a tad flat sometimes, I liked her job though! The chemistry between the main characters was good and believable. I wished there was more depth to their personalities but I liked how they evolved together.

If you like dark with something a little different, then this is for you
This is a great story if you're into very dark romance material with a twist. Who thought that something which starts off in a mortuary would be such a great read? Very well written and I loved Emily's spark and the way she refused to just lie down and submit, making him work for it. The only thing I didn't like - spoiler alert - was Ruarc's cruel treatment of Emily when he forced her off his property and threatened to kill her if she didn't leave, after he took her in the first place and let's face it, initially at least, subjected her to some pretty appalling behaviour. That made me cool toward him somewhat but alls well that ends well. Once Emily has a taste of Ruarc's world she realised she hasn't really been living, just existing in a safe cocoon she's created for herself. Meeting a crime lord/owner of an exclusive sex club opens her eyes to a life she didn't know she wanted. Definitely well worth the read.

a good quick read.
A very slow start to the book, but it was worth the wait for the absolute SMUTTY scenes. The climax of the story was a bit bland, nothing that really excited me, but overall a really good book. Only took a few hours to read.
