Comic star Bill Murray is at his wildest as America's leading "Gonzo" journalist, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, the legendary underground reporter whose passion for writing was second only to his love of weird chemicals, alcohol, violence and insanity. Along with best friend (Peter Boyle), Murray offers a manic look back at the Sixties and Seventies as an eyewitness to everything from a free-for-all San Francisco drug trial to a one-on-one bathroom interview with then Presidential candidate Richard Nixon. This off-the-wall comedy also boasts a musical score by rock superstar Neil Young. Review: Finally, the original music is in place - the original music makes all the difference. Restored: at 5:35 Dylan's Hwy 61 - turning on music sitting down to write, on previous version was some generic Joe Walsh rip off at 9:20 Sugar Pie Honey Bunch - in Hospital scene, was some R&P soul rip off on previous version at 1:02:00 Papa was a Rolling Stone - runway scene, was some chika chika guitar junk in previous version at 1:12:00 Purple Haze - right after lecture scene where Hunter mourns loss of Lazlo, was some bad Hendrix rip off junk in previous version at 1:16:00 All Along the Watchtower - Zoo plane, previous edition recycled Neil Young Home on the Range cue a few other background music cues were also restored but these are the biggies. Much more enjoyable with the original cues restored and the bad replacements removed. Amazing how a min or two of bad music cues ruins the feel and continuity of the film Well worth the price to have complete movie, as originally intended. I compared the 2017 Shout Select Blu Ray with the 1999 Anchor Bay DVD edition Review: Fans Of Hunter Thompson Will Love This Film ! - As an admirer of Hunter Thompson, I found this film incredibly funny and interesting. Unless someone truly understands Thompson's style, they may find this film slightly quirky or just plain bad. This though was his journalistic style, and thus the film completely fits the mold of Gonzo. In some interviews Thompson himself said he had a hard time living up to the fictional Gonzo character (his alter ego, or aggrandized version of himself) he had created in his writing. Hunter's self styled self reporting often took poetic license, as does this film, which is what leads some to see this as a strange film. Bill Murray does an absolutely superb job at portraying our wayward son, Thompson. Not only was his wardrobe exaggerated and comical as if someone added more color to one of Hunter's self portraits, but Murray had his mannerisms and voice almost down to a "T". The script does put forth a more playful less cynical Hunter however, unlike the real Mccoy. Peter Boyle adds the cynicism to the film that Hunter's character lacks. As the public defender he represents another cartoon version of Hunter himself, this time in his political views and questionable acts. Acts much more questionable than playing football indoors or escaping from a hospital. His character goes through some very radical changes and Boyle shows it well. As a fan I had to give this five stars. It has his signature all over it, from the comical and sometimes dramatic aggrandizement to Neil Young singing "Home On The Range". Some of the details in this film have a basis in reality, but in true Gonzo style are taken somewhere between fiction and nonfiction. So light up a cig, pour another glass of Wild Turkey, and enjoy!

Bill Murry Rocks
It's Bill Murry, so it's funny with physical humor over the top. The story is like a film about Hippies and injustice to whom ever. Lots of drugs drinking and T&A. The plot thins out in the middle of the movie. The Ending is good. If not for Bill Murry and his Superb acting, the movie would be worthless. As it is I give 4 stars and a finger snap.

Funniest movie on earth!
My second favorite movie of all time! Second only to Worlds Fastest Indian! I doubt that anyone but Bill Murray could have played that part and Peter Boyle was PERFECT as Carl Lazlo Esquire III. Ive probably seen this 25 times since the first time in 1986.

Tanto el film como la banda sonora son excepcionales. Sabía que el disco de la película era muy difícil de conseguir pero ahora tengo ambos. Gracias Amazon.

This film is fantastic! Very witty and Bill Murray portrays the infamous Hunter S. Thompson perfectly. I was unsure he'd be able to go that weird but he does a fantastic job and the supporting cast plays off him brilliantly too. I was pretty much laughing throughout so would recommend this to anyone who enjoys weird comedies and Bill Murray movies too! If you enjoyed Fear and Loathing Las Vegas you will also enjoy this; though it is older.
