Easily one of the most important records ever made, John Coltrane's a Love Supreme was his pinnacle studio outing that at once compiled all of his innovations from his past, spoke of his current deep spirituality, and also gave a glimpse into the next two and a half years (sadly, those would be his last). Recorded at the end of 1964, Trane's classic quartet of Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, and Jimmy Garrison stepped into the studio and created one of the most thought-provoking, concise, and technically pleasing albums of their bountiful relationship (not to mention his best-selling to date). from the undulatory (and classic) bassline at the intro to the last breathy notes, Trane is at the peak of his logical yet emotionally varied soloing while the rest of the group is remarkably in tune with Coltrane's spiritual vibe. Composed of four parts, each has a thematic progression leading to an understanding of spirituality through meditation. Review: All-time classic album, even for those that don't like jazz - All time classic album, I had it on CD, felt it was time to buy on Vinyl. A great record of a musical giant at his best, with a fantastic band. Review: As good as its reputation - It's only recently that I've started to get into Jazz. I have some Coltrane on CD but always prefer vinyl. I bought this on vinyl as it seemed to be the most highly rated of his releases. I was a little worried that it would be wall to wall tenor sax but what is delightful about this album is that it gives equal time to all the players and so achieves a perfect balance as far as I'm concerned. It is every bit as good as its reputation.

Great, happy with my item.
Great, happy with my purchase. Bought it on vinyl after owning it for a while on cd. Just a nicer thing to own tbh. I'm not going to put in a review based on my omnipresent knowledge of music, which i personally find tedious. Its on top of lists for a reason, if you don't like it, thats your omnipresent opinion i suppose.

... after being told that it was one of the best Jazz albums ever
I bought this after being told that it was one of the best Jazz albums ever. I also read that Paul Weller recommended that Tim Burgess of The Charlatans should seek and buy this album. This is a superb piece of music that can change your mood very quickly. If you have the facility, get it on vinyl....it does sound better that way.

Wonderful piece of art!
What else can be said about this album? It's an example of wonderful music well recorded. Just need to save money and buy more albums of Coltrane.

Great musician deserves better.
Not a review of the music (which is fabulous). This is the second vinyl copy I have had of this amazing music, both copies have quality issues which ruin the listeners pleasure. In terms of sound quality/mastering it's excellent but the manufacturing/quality control lets it down. Surely classic albums like this deserve better? Very disappointing.

Great Album and Great Press

This is a really good record. One of the best jazz albums out there from a master. The sound is great.

If you know and love John Coltrane then you either have this already in some format or it's on your list to grab, My copy was nice and quiet with only a hint of warp. This is an GRP Impulse release and not from one of the inferior Euro labels like Wax Time or DOL so the quality of the recording is great. Highly recommened and essential
