Does the job as expected
Bought this to use on some doors on a house that settled pretty bad. This was definitely worth the purchase. Worked great and cut the work in half.

Super sand
This thing's awesome! It'll chew through batteries like crazy, but sanding wood with it is like cutting through butter. I've really put this thing through its paces. It's definitely one of my top DeWalt tools. And belt changes and adjustments are so easy.

tons of power
I have multilple 20/60 volt batteries so, when my 40+ year old corded Craftsman belt sander died, this seemed like a logical way to go. I'm glad I got it. It has lots of power, is super easy to load belts and adjust tracking and it is a pleasure to be uncorded. Any uncorded tool will get a lot more use due to the convenience. Others have truthfully noted that it uses up battery charges quickly, running for around 30-40 continuous minutes. So, it depends upon your intended use to judge if convenience versus run duration are the most important to you. I would buy this tool again.,

Incorrect desciption
This is a 3x21 in belt sander, not 3x18 like the description says. Now my project is stalled until I can find more sandpaper the correct size. Marking off one star for the incorrect description. Several other reviewers complained of poor battery life because they are using batteries too small. You can't run this tool on the little 1.5Ah 20V batteries like a cordless drill. You need at least a 3Ah, preferably 5Ah or greater battery to run this. When using it with a good battery, it runs well, has plenty of power, and the charge lasts decently well. You may have to stop and let batteries recharge if you have a big project. To me that's worth not having to deal with a cord. The lock-on button and speed adjuster are nice touches.

Undecided
It works well, but only about 5 inches of the sanding strap actually touches your material so you’re not gonna get very close to the edges using the front or back. Also, you will go through an awful lot of batteries using this obviously if I had to redo it. I’m not sure if I would buy this or go to a corded one, but I really think corded might be the way to go.

Handy tool for woodworking
This tool works smoothly when sanding wood, making the job much easier. It uses batteries quickly, but I appreciate how simple it is to change belts and make adjustments. I've tested it out quite a bit and find it to be a reliable addition to my collection of DeWalt tools.

A bit heavy.
It is a bit heavier than I expected but is east to use,. Nice no to be fighting a cord.

I finally ordered the Dewalt belt sander when it went on sale for $239.00 , it was the lowest price i've seen so far on Amazon and i couldn't hold back at that price. For what it's worth, i already have the whole collection of Dewalt and Porter Cable 20v tools and this was the only missing item.It retails for $369 at my local Home Depot so this purchase was a no brainer. Not too impressed with the way the dust bag is attached but if it does it's purpose i can live with it. The tracking adjustment seems spot on , we'll see if it stays like that after prolonged use, and from what i read this unit is pretty hungry for batteries , i alrady have two 5A batteries but will purchase a few more if necessary. I'll update my review after using this sander for a few hours.

It works really well. The sanding is faster than my corded makita and it makes a lot less dust. But, a 5AH battery will last 7-10 min, so you have to plan many batteries or bigger batteries.

I used this to sand / level some areas of a deck substructure. It did the job very well. The alignment did move around so you need to watch it, but it is very easy to maintain with the small knob on the side of the unit. I haven't used it on fine work yet, but I don't see any reason for it not to perform there as well. I had no problem with my 5 Ah battery running out for the ~ 2 hours duration (but it wasn't running all of the time either).

I own corded belt sanders and use when I have a big job like sanding a big deck. I use this battery powered sander for the small quick jobs. The dewalt 20v belt sander is excellent. Very powerful and does a quick job. Don't expect this sander to do big jobs unless you have many batteries charged up. I love the convenience of not having to find a power outlet.
