OPEN Intro Set

Super product! I've been working with Blue Ridge Oils, but wanted to keep my "feet wet" with acrylics, so thought I'd try the Gold OPEN. Very nice feel to these paints, excellent coverage, super saturation. The addition of the OPEN Thinner extends the drying time even further. Close enough to oil that I think it is an excellent alternative. The landscape set doesn't include black, so I had to mix a gray using ultramarine blue, alazarin crimson and cadmium yellow. Egg idea from Tisch Academy, a terrific training site with a dynamic instructor.

Sister paints, says she loves how she can paint for much longer with very little paint. Size of bottles is kind of eh, would rather buy buckets at this point 😂 Paint quality is amazing. Color variety is there but they want to you buy the specific stuff unless you’re a pro and can mix it yourself with these original ones. Dries slow, but steady. Make sure to be in a controlled heat and humidity room or in a space where thy use don’t change frequently throughout the day.

Awesome! Something that drove me crazy about traditional acrylics are how quickly they dry- 3 minutes in and I've already lost my ability to blend and the paint is dry on the palette. Not so with these-- I have plenty of time to blend beautiful skies and use up all my paint. I use them in tandem with traditional acrylics, for the times when I need a thicker application of paint.

It is a slow drying paint that makes blending so much easier. I wish it was less expensive so I could buy it exclusively. It does seem like I use less paint when using this product. The small tubes have lasted quite awhile and I paint a lot.

I have been experimenting with mediums and I really like this brand for its convenience. I have been doing a lot of plein air painting and Open Acrylics let me blend but also not have to leave with a super wet canvas if I don't paint super thick. I have some slow drying medium to mix in with my other acrylics but that is one more thing to bring in my pack and can be inconsistent if I am working fast- so I like that this brand does that for me. The colors in this set are nice and thankfully they give you a large white to use. Golden is a great brand and the acrylics have a luminous quality you don't get in other brands. I have recommended this set to a lot of plein air painters frustrated with the cumbersome nature of oils and the lightning fast drying of regular acrylics.

I've always wished I could start my projects by blending with oils and then be able to paint acrylics over the top for final detailing--something which of course doesn't work. This isn't perfectly that, but it's amazingly close. It's really been a game-changer for me! I use my paints thin, and the medium included in these starter boxes works great and is really useful. These paints are more on the translucent side, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with a bit of white, and I love the wide range of colors in this set (and the smaller tubes), especially for the reasonable price. One last note--I use a ceramic palette and cover it with cling wrap between sessions. I only usually get to paint once a week, and these paints have stayed workable for two and a half months on my current project. Great stuff, Golden!

Golden paints are the best. Highly pigmented and easy to work with The open range has an extended drying time so you can go back and rework the paint up to four days later. I bought these paints to create my first commissioned painting and the buyer loved the way the colours popped.
