Poor pup! The right rear foot was so swollen ...
Combined Davis benzoyl peroxide, chlorhexidine, and miconazone shampoos into one to finally tame my Chihuaua's whole body fungal infection. Somehow, her immune system had gotten depressed, developed fungus on paws and in ears, and fur smelled skunky. Bathing in antifungal shampoos helped a little, soaking feet in apple cider vinegar helped a little, soaking in povidine-iodine helped a little, applying Chlotrimazole cream helped a bit, but nothing quite knocked it out. Paws were verrry swollen and itchy, and she licked every last hair off them. Even after bathing the underside webbing of the paws felt slimy. Based on obvious signs of fungus, combined with hot spot sores, slimy areas, I concluded she was afflicted with several issues simultaneously. Poor pup! The right rear foot was so swollen from the fungus she couldn't put weight on it. The slimy patches were a combination of biofilm and layer of dead fungus that compromised ability of medications from killing fungus. Combining the shampoos simultaneously targeted mange (skunky smell), fungus, and bacterial infection.I lightly scrubbed slimy areas with a small child's toothbrush dipped in shampoo to mechanically remove the biofilm, then lathered a second time with my concoction, let it sit for a couple minutes before rinsing. Repeated the shampoo ritual twice a week on the whole body, twice a day (morning and evening) on the paws. Almost immediately her condition improved. Still dabbed a bit of 2% hydrocortizone cream to the paws and under the tail to tame the itch. After 3 week all the fungus was gone, biofilm gone, swelling in all paws gone except for a bit in the right rear, fur growing back. Couple more weeks and the last of the swelling on the right rear was gone, all paws had fur on them again. Still shampoo her twice a week with the concoction to prevent recurrence (skip the brushing though), she smells wonderful, is much happier, walks and jumps normally. The key was attacking all 3 sources of irritation simultaneously by mixing the medicated shampoos, and ALSO removing the biofilm so the shampoos could work effectively.

Pitbull-tested, Pitbull-mom-approved. Thank goodness.
We are so grateful to have been recommended chlorhexidine shampoo by a friend. The Davis brand is the first we've tried and it is so helpful in reducing irritation and redness on our pitbull's chest, stomach, and groin. We have narrowed down the cause of her irritation to seasonal/environmental allergies, and to stress. When she came to us from the rescue, she was on antibiotics and steroids for dermatitis and bumps on her tummy. They had gone by the time the antibiotics and steroids ran out, but they came back two and three times with a vengeance. I thought it looked like a yeast infection, so I fed her yogurt and applied probiotic topicals. She was itching and sore and exhausted, and we felt awful. Twice the irritation turned into full-blown staph. I was convinced we had a real problem on our hands and was starting to panic. After all, we were already feeding her a grain-free limited-ingredient diet, along with organic yogurt supplements. We would even wipe her down each time she came in from outside with apple cider vinegar, or distilled water. We tried everything.Well I feel like a horrible dog mom, and I want to apologize to sweet Clara, because shampooing with this product just once took the redness and itching away. Twice, and the bumps flattened out. The webbing between her toes was red and itching--we soaked her feet in a water & shampoo solution, and they calmed down right away. Any time a tinge of that redness returns to her sensitive tummy, we cover it in a thin lather and let it sit for ten minutes. Rinse very well, and the next day, right as rain. I don't know why I hadn't heard of this product before. I've been a dog owner on and off my entire life. I am so, so grateful to have discovered this, and I'm preaching it to everyone I know.We haven't used the shampoo in two months and she still doesn't have any problems. We now mix a little in with her regular lavender shampoo she gets washed with once or twice a month. Easy. Smells great. Works great. Thank God.

Works?
Ok so here is what's going on. My bichon scratches herself raw. I've tried everything. Steroids shots, prednisone, fexofenodrine, Sudafed. All ok'd by vet, I've tried medicated shampoos, cortisone creams, the list goes on and on. Happens to her every aug and sept. When I lived in IL. But, have moved to Texas and her scratching just do ant end. The vet suggested we can try a new pill that seems to be working for constant scratching, or antibiotic creams. Well I did a lot of research on this new drug and yep, it stops scratching within 1 day. It's expensive, and it has horrible side effects, and ruins the immune system. So ji told vet that pill is not an option. This is how I then found this product. I read reviews and thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. No more scratching, no more raw. Could it be this shampoo? Not sure, could be cuz it's finally cooling down temps. Whatever it is, I'm just happy. I have plenty left, along with the spray of same brand I purchased also but I'll be ready to use it again if scratching starts up again.will update review if it does.
