Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time picks up where the 2005 PlayStation 2 release, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, left off. The Cooper Gang has split up, with Sly surprisingly giving up thievery for a more domestic life, and Bently being entrusted with the Thievius Raccoonus - the book that holds the history and skills of the gang. Unfortunately Bently also built a time machine, which seems to be causing the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus to disappear. View larger Review: Definitely lives up to the originals - Just getting a new Sly Cooper game after 7 and a bit years was good enough for me, but the fact that it's also a great game is a bonus. At first I was very apprehensive about Sanzaru Games, a new developer, taking the reins over the new game. After seeing some gameplay videos I was impressed but not fully satisfied. When I got my hands on the game however, I was blown out of the park. The graphics are stunning, the voice-over is amazing (As always), the gameplay is polished... need I go on? My only gripe with this game is that in-game the characters mouths don't move when they speak, but this is so small and so rarely noticed that it never diminished how good I thought this game was. I hope to see another Sly Cooper in the pipeline soon (And judging by the secret ending I'd say it's going to be soon). Review: A fun revival, with holes in it. - As a long term Sly Cooper fan, i was excited to see a new game in the series turn up, even if it was headed by a different developer. For the most part, I wasn't disappointed; the gameplay is great, similar to Sly 2 and 3, and the level design, enemy design, story and dialogue is still as fun as ever. There are tons of fun winks and nods to previous games without leaving new players out in the dark, and new characters that turn up are great fun, both to talk to and to play as. The cooper ancestors handle similarly to sly, but are themed very differently. Tennesee Kid Cooper in particular stands out, what with him possessing a gun and all. It'd seem like he'd be no fun to play at first, but it's actually really fun to run around the old west blasting away with his rifle. The super loot collection mechanic is back, too, with every level containing several artifacts lying around for the crew to swipe. Also, surprisingly to me, the costume mechanic is actually really well implemented, and used enough not to just be gimmicky without being over used. There are quite a few dents that prevent this from being perfect, however. I'm not sure if it's personal play style, or just the fact that enemies come in swarms and hit very hard, but Murray is next to useless now - not having any of the moves or gadgets that Sly or Bentley have to get around the level easily, he's forced to wade through enemies in a massive brawl, but his combat mechanics aren't really that fun, so it just ends up being annoying. Luckily you don't HAVE to play him that much outside of scripted story missions designed to really gel with his mechanics, so it doesn't matter too much, but it's a shame he routinely ends up benched just because he's no fun. This in turn makes the Ice Age level a bit of a nightmare, seeing as the cooper ancestor for that area uses Murray's moveset - though since he can actually climb stuff, it's lessened a bit. But yeah, Ice Age was a bit of a nasty slog for me that seemed out of place for the rest of the plot and just wasn't fun. Sly can end up being quite a bit overshadowed by his ancestors if you don't fill him with gadgets, seeing as they all have sly's movesets and one other thing that make them BETTER than him. The fact that they all have unique animations is really fun, though - for example, Sly's spin attack move on Tennesee Kid consists of him spinning around firing his gun rather than sweeping with his cane. The final boss is... Well. it's really disappointing. I'm not going to spoil anything, but it's just a single, long quick time event. And that's really lame, especially after every level previously has had an actual boss fight, which are usually really fun (with the exception of the Ice Age, which used a finicky mechanic. Grrr.) And, finally, and this is more of a personal gripe... The Mideval level. I don't mind them tampering with the cannon, seeing as they own it now, but... damn. That was kind of out of left field, and didn't really make any sense. Hrm. Don't want to give away spoilers, but i thought that part was just weird and out of character. However, I will close up by saying this IS a really fun game, despite it's failings, and while they might be frustrating for a little while, there's more than enough good stuff to make up for it.

Great Game
Bought this for my 10 year old as one of his birthday presents. Had never come across Sly games before so was a bit unsure when we first started to play it (by we I mean taking it in turns as it's a one player game) but once we got into the game we couldn't put it down. My son particularly likes sneaking up on the guards and pickpocketing them and then going to the shop and buying ammo, special moves etc that can be used in the main game. I enjoy trying to find all the bottles and masks that are dotted around. We both love the challenges which are fantastic fun. Can highly recommend this game.

Highly entertaining for son and father!
I had to buy this after playing the Sly Trilogy for PS3. All the Sly games are great to play. The "missions" are relatively easy but the boss battles take a bit more time (and they tend to wear out your fingers too). With the 4 boss battles I've done so far, when you get beaten, you don't get thrown back to start the battle from the beginning. This was frustrating in one of the earlier games (I forget which) but it makes it a bit easier to get through them in this one. I was an avid Ratchet & Clank fan before playing Sly but I've gone off R&C because the game format has changed quite radically over the past couple of years. They haven't done that with Sly so if you enjoyed the first few games, you'll enjoy this too. The levels are a lot more detailed and the dialog is pure entertainment! "Shut up ringtail!", ok Carmelita, calm down.
