Synology DS223J 2 Bay Desktop NAS, White

I get everything I need from this server. I primarily use it as an Emby server, but also for Surveillance Station, so my review will be based on those 2 things. For of all, it’s super simple to setup and get to the UI, which is also pretty user friendly. Installing apps is simple and setting up network shares is equally as simple. There’s advanced controls, like user rights, recycle bin functionality and that just scratches the surface, but again I didn’t need to take advantage too much of some of those. The Emby functionality is great and streaming anime from it is flawless. I last used a Mini PC which really struggled with decoding and made the experience terribly slow. I no longer have that issue (thankfully) as the server is pretty speedy - even for larger content. Surveillance Station was just as easy to setup with enough options for what I need. Allows me to backup my recordings instead of having to use Micro SD cards or Eufy’s cloud services, so I’m really pleased with that too. Overall, for the price I paid and the experience I’ve had - I’m thrilled. (Worth noting I bought some sound dampening feet to put it in a cabinet).

excellent quality and easy to instal, my problem was actually setting up the system which is no fault of the product.

I needed a new 2 Bay NAS to replace my old D-Link as no longer compatible with Apple Time Machine. This arrived yesterday and was up and running within 20 minutes using the my existing 2 x WD Red 3Tb disks. The DS Finder App was having trouble finalising the install, but going through a web browser worked perfectly. The web interface is easy to use and the Time Machine backup works flawlessly (once set up - see the Synology help site for instructions).

First of all let me say what a great machine this is. It is very easy to set up, and although it's a plastic case, it is still well made. I have two other Synology NAS units and this is a different model the operating system is the same and it all works in exactly the same way. Unfortunately, this unit came without a UK 13 amp plug cable or adaptor. This is actually a legal requirement in the UK and I should have sent it back, but I didn't want the hassle of sending it back and reordering, so I dug around in my stock of old PC power cables, calculated what fuse to put in and used that instead. Overall a very good product and can recommend it. It lost one star due to the missing cable or adaptor.

After research online I was excited to get started on my NAS journey however was left doubting whether I will try another NAS after such a poor experience. The product was plagued with problems from the first go. The actual physical setup was straightforward. However once on, it was much louder than I thought it would be with an annoying constant clicking sound being present. The setup wizard actually struggled to find the NAS initially. Took a while after changing some settings before it found it. Then the installation was an issue, with some things not intuitive. After getting past the setup wizard I tried to install the DSM but took 20 mins after being stuck at 55%. Had to redo the installation after manually finding the relevant DSM. Once the software was up and running and the NAS setup, I installed some packages via the DSM UI. This was so painful. It was so slow. I can only describe the experience like a low end old laptop when things keep hanging. I clicked on something had to wait 5-10 seconds then do my next action. I persisted thinking that people must be recommending this for a good reason. So I tried to move a file from my PC to the NAS. After being very patient to load up the file manager and dragged the file to upload off it went to the NAS, a 2GB file. Then I waited. And waited some more. Then after 10 minutes I had enough with it being around 20% done, with 500mbs network speed and connected to the ethernet cable, the network shouldn't be an issue. In the end, I packed it all up 6 hours after getting it to be sent back. I'm really surprised at all the great reviews this gets but after this experience I will probably not be venturing into the world of NAS again. I can only give this one star.

Haven’t had any problems with it. It’s perfect for home use as it isn’t very big but still has enough space to store all personal data to keep safe. Very quiet, it’s in my bedroom and I can’t hear it apart from sometimes it turns itself off and back on again. Very reliable and I can access all my data from anywhere in the world which is a plus. Easy web interface and fast speed transfer

I'm new into this type of software and devices but I can say that it was very easy to setup. I didn't took me too long to have my user created and have my NAS up and running, It was just a bit confusing to create additional users and give them the access I wanted them to have but nothing that reading a bit a watching videos wouldn't solve. overall, after a month and half of having my NAS I pretty much happy with it. it works perfectly and I can keep all my information back it up in one place.

Seems to be a good NAS for small business/ home use. Fixed my issue with MacOS Time Machine. I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t seem to support DLNA but relies on its own apps for media access (they are ok but a bit over complicated). This also assumes that your system only uses Synology as the apps don’t operate with other NASs. A scare about using “incompatible” drives turned out to be baseless, with my old WD Red ones at least. As others have said, this came without a UK standard plug (not allowed) but I had one available.

Bought this to be my off site backup for my existing DS423+. No issues so far with hyperbackup and the 2x18TB drives I added in. 5 star for this use case. This is NOT a device for using PLEX or heavy computations so please be aware of your use case if you plan to buy this for things like that. 2 star for this use case.

Ottimo NAS per privati. Era da tempo che pensavo di archiviare i miei dati su qualcosa che fosse accessibile da ogni luogo e da ogni dispositivo e che contemporaneamente fosse sicuro e gestito soltanto da me, quindi cercando una soluzione mi sono imbattuto in questo articolo che tutto sommato ha un buon rapporto qualità/prezzo. Tra l'altro Sinology è una garanzia per dispositivi di archiviazione dati. Il NAS (Network Attached Storage) è dotato di una presa RJ 45 per il collegamento alla rete e di due prese USB per eventuali altri dischi esterni; all'interno ha due alloggiamenti per dischi rigidi ma può alloggiare anche unità di memoria a stato solido (SSD); in quest'ultimo caso però è necessario acquistare a parte un accessorio. Nella confezione, arriva ben imballato il NAS insieme al suo alimentatore ed un cavo di rete oltre alle necessarie istruzioni, nient'altro; bisogna poi acquistare gli hdisks. Personalmente ho acquistato due Western Digital Red da 4 tb l'uno, ma si possono inserire tranquillamente altri dischi, importante che siano adatti ad un NAS che rimane acceso 24 ore su 24. La procedura di installazione, sia hardware che software è ben spiegata e semplicissima e porta via poco tempo; successivamente si può fare riferimento a tanti video presenti su internet per utilizzare al meglio e secondo le proprie necessità il sistema. Personalmente mi trovo benissimo, riesco a collegarmi ed avere accesso ai miei dati da ogni luogo e credo di aver risolto definitivamente le mie necessità di archiviazione. Sicuramente un dispositivo da consigliare a chi ha necessità di archiviazione di dati, foto e video. Ultimo consiglio per coloro che necessitano di accedere da remoto via internet: per garantire la sicurezza dei dati è opportuno utilizzare una VPN.

Ich war lange auf der Suche nach einem zentralen Medienspeicher für sämtliche Fotos von mir und meiner Frau sowie andere persönliche Dokumente. Nach langen Recherchen stand ich vor der Wahl zwischen Synology und der WD My Cloud. Da ein Freund von mir Letztere nutzt und den Zugriff von außerhalb als mangelhaft empfand, ist es die Synology Cloud geworden! Die Ersteinrichtung dauert einen Augenblick und setzt zumindest rudimentäre EDV und Netzwerk Kenntnisse voraus, aber nichts wo man sich nicht mit ein paar Googlesuchen reinfuchsen kann. Für unterwegs gibt es die Synology Drive App mit welcher man von überall auf die Dateien der Home Cloud zugreifen kann. Dies war auch die Grundvoraussetzung, da meine Frau wieder Speicherplatz auf ihrem Handy haben wollte, zeitgleich aber auf alte Bilder jederzeit zugreifen wollte. Das funktioniert mit dieser Lösung hervorragend. Da ich der Fotographiemuffel bin, konnte ich Freunden und Familie immer nur sehr selten Urlaubsbilder zeigen. Jetzt mit dem gemeinsamen Speicher funktioniert das ganz hervorragend! Das erste Mal alle Dateien hochladen ist zwar sehr zeitintensiv, aber sobald das erledigt ist, kann man eine ständige Synchronisierung aktivieren und hat alle seine Dateien immer gesichert.

Se me hizo super raro que viniera con un convertidor eléctrico de viaje, por lo menos lo incluyeron, pero trae enchufe tipo europeo, eso no me gustó por que hace más bulto

Le Synology DS223J NAS est une excellente option pour ceux qui cherchent à stocker leurs données de manière sécurisée et fiable. Son installation a été rapide et intuitive, grâce à l'interface utilisateur très bien pensée de Synology. Je l'ai configuré sans difficulté, et il a immédiatement commencé à fonctionner de manière fluide. Le boîtier en blanc est élégant et discret, idéal pour un bureau à la maison ou un petit bureau professionnel. La gestion des fichiers est ultra-simple, et l'accès distant via l'application Synology est un vrai plus. De plus, il offre une bonne vitesse de transfert de données, que ce soit pour des sauvegardes ou du streaming multimédia. Avec ses deux baies, il offre une excellente capacité de stockage et la possibilité de configurer des solutions RAID pour plus de sécurité. Si vous cherchez un NAS performant, fiable et facile à configurer, je recommande vivement ce modèle !
