I'm sleeping much better - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
I have a heart problem and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis - also HORRIBLE sleep. Mild sleep apnea. I bought this out of desperation hoping it would help with the brain inflammation and because an M.E. expert said that elevating the head above the feet by 6 inches would help increase blood volume. I don't know if it is doing either of those things. What I do know is that for reasons unknown it is really helping me sleep more restfully. I have always had night terrors - terrible dreams accompanied by physical sensations like choking, sweating, terrible sensations in my heart like someone digging their fingertips in and squeezing. I usually wake up feeling like I just ran a marathon with my eyes closed. For reasons I do not understand I'm no longer getting the physical sensations along with the night mares and I'm waking up feeling a little bit rested. I'm still having the same night mares - just not all the physical strain that used to go along with it. Very strange - but good! More good stuff about this: M.E. will make you spend A LOT of time in bed and my back always gets really sore - this seems to be helping with that as when my back starts to get sore now I just put pillows under my feet and legs and my body being in a 'v' shape seems to alleviate the back pain. I am very surprised that the foam can support both me and my mattress without sagging and making my bed too soft. Also, I am very VERY sensitive to fumes of any kind and I was shocked that this foam product didn't make me sick when it came out of the package - so two thumbs up for that! Many bedding and household products will make me sick when they are new. It took me about 2-3 weeks to get used to the slope. I don't slide down it much at all (maybe 6 inches over 8 hours if that) but for those first few weeks I would think that I was sliding the last few hours I slept and wake up like 'ohhh nooo!!" That sensation is gone now. The only complaint I have to spend a lot of my time dozing on and off in bed and I usually sleep with a lot of random stuff in the bed that I need either for work or for comfort - phones, notepad and pen, remote control, hat, scarf, lip gloss. That stuff does tend to slide down now and end up lost in the blankets somewhere near the middle of the bed instead of just hanging out by my pillow where I usually keep it all handy. Totally solvable by getting some kind of bedside table though and totally worth it for the increased restfulness I've been feeling. I like to sleep between two body pillows as well and those do tend to end up at the middle or bottom of the bed - it's half annoying... but half convenient as usually by the time they are at the bottom of the bed, I've been asleep long enough that my back is starting to get sore (I'm talking like 10-12 hours or more) and it's time to put my legs on the pillows to help with the back pain anyway. I think people who don't sleep as long or with all that stuff in their bed won't have an issue lol. For that 2-3 week period of getting used to it I was really wondering if I should have bought the one that only slopes 4 inches but now I'm very very happy with this product! I'll be traveling soon and I really don't know how I'm going to go back to sleeping on a flat surface!

Performs perfectly for my needs, elevating my head while lying flat.
I found this wedge to be perfect for my needs. I bought this to help with sleep apnea, plus I just like to have my head elevated, always have. The 7" elevation seems perfect, I would not want it to be less (5 inches) and any higher and I'd probably start to slide down the bed. I much prefer the full bed wedge verses just the pillow type wedges. I'm more comfortable being able to lie flat as opposed to bending my back to raise my head. Very much a personal choice. I did have one concern from reading the reviews before buying, and that was the firmness or compressibility. For me, being around 180lb, it does not seem to compress at all! Just to be clear, I place the wedge under my mattress, not on top of it. It arrived compressed and rolled up. I unwrapped it and let it swell to full size for a good 8 hours. Then placed it under the mattress and slept on it that night. I did not notice any odor. I'm very happy with this product and recommend it to others. Great quality and performance. Best of luck.

So far, so good
I've been sleeping on my "elevated" bed for over three weeks now, and am pleased with it. I've edited the following to incorporate new information. We ordered the 7-inch Full size Avana Mattress Elevator on Monday and it was delivered on Thursday in a 31 x 17 x 9" box that (according to the shipping label) weighed 15 pounds -- quite a manageable size and weight for just about anyone to handle. I wasn't sure whether to expect one whole piece or two halves -- we got two halves, which are definitely easier to carry around than one biggie would be, though I'm more interested in how well they perform. The pieces were very easy to unroll, and expanded to nearly their full size immediately. I could detect no odor whatsoever, but set the pieces in the attic to finish expanding and to outgas for a few days. One piece is very white, like lather, and the other is an extremely pale yellow, though I suppose both may continue to yellow over time. I would very happily have ordered the cloth cover too if the original zipper model was still available. But since previous reviewers say the currently offered cover is basically a fitted sheet, I bought a complete set of sheets for far less money (in a color that coordinates well with the rest of the bedding), and am using one to cover the foundation and the other to cover the elevator foam. I'm quite pleased with the overall visual effect (though, again, I'm more interested in how well the elevator performs). Like many others, I wasn't happy about the bed getting 7" higher (it was too tall already), so we eliminated the metal frame and set the foundation (it's not actually a box spring) directly on the floor. The foam pieces will go between the foundation and the mattress. (My initial thought was to eliminate the foundation instead, but that would have left the foam pieces sitting directly on unfinished plywood, which didn't seem like a good idea.) The new arrival has replaced the wedge pillow that I bought eleven months ago. It worked very well to control my acid indigestion, but as others have mentioned, wedge pillows are not ideal for side sleepers, because one's hips do not cheerfully bend sideways. I'll keep mine, though, for occasions when I'm sleeping elsewhere. Other reviewers have complained that they tend to slide down the bed during the night. I do occasionally notice that I'm a little further south than when I went to bed, but that sort of thing hasn't been an actual problem the way it sometimes was when I would slide down the wedge pillow. I'm still free of the acid indigestion, which had been striking me in the late evening, on the average of a few days every-other week. I still have no idea how sleeping in a different position has any effect on what my stomach does a few hours earlier (or, perhaps more accurately, over a dozen hours after I get up), but am not complaining! I hadn't gotten the elevator for that purpose, but rather because if I burp when lying flat, I often burp up some stomach acid. It's nice not to feel the need to sit up if I feel a burp coming on at night, and even nicer to know that if I happen to burp in my sleep, that'll be OK too. Oddly enough, I never noticed any chronic sort of acid reflux till shortly *after* I started using the elevator, but I'm virtually certain that was caused by something else that I started doing about the same time. Fortunately, I find that avoiding tomatoes has virtually eliminated that problem for now, though hopefully I'll be able to reintroduce them once I deal with the other thing. [Added 10 Oct 25: I dealt with that 8 months ago, and since then have been eating tomatoes with no problem.] As I continue using the Avana Mattress Elevator, I'll update this review from time to time.

Best decision ever
Best thing I ever did for myself. The incline has made my heartburn practically disappear, and has helped my back pain because I can now let my mattress do its job instead of lying on an uncomfortable pile of pillows. I should have asked for help putting them under my mattress, though! Getting them on the bed platform was easy, but putting the mattress back on top was NOT. The extra friction added by the foam really made that a two person job.

I purchased this to elevate my daughter in her bed. She suffers from occasional acid reflux. This under mattress foam "wedge" works perfectly. I thought the foam would squish down but it doesn't. I left it to breath for a couple days after I opened the package it is shipped in and it then expands to its full dimensions. She doesn't slide down. The long slope of the entire bed (instead of a wedge pillow) is much better on her back and she sleeps so much better now!!! We then purchased a queen size for our bed (it comes in two pieces) and even with our very heavy mattress and two adults sleeping on the wedge mattress the foam keeps its height and doesn't squish down. Fantastic product. There isn't any odor from the foam... just a slight smell when its first unwrapped from shipping which goes away quickly.

Hmmm, what to say about this after six months. I don't have any condition that requires this, but I find that if my head is higher, I get less mucus blocking my nose at night. 7" is quite the boost, let me tell you, so you will need to get a little used to it. Moving around while sleeping occasionally will make you sink down the mattress a little, so you'll need to pull yourself up now and then, but probably not often. But overall, I can't complain. It is very much as advertised. As others have mentioned, make sure the two pieces stay together for best results (otherwise you'll start rutting your mattress). And be prepared for some oxidization discoloration after a few months. But hey, it's for function, not aesthetics! Was it worth the money? Maybe. For people who need it for a health condition, I expect it's a good idea. You only need to buy it once and it's good for pretty much any bed you buy.

So far so good. The foam puffed out instantly and 8 hours later I’m pretty sure it’s done. Nice and firm. And no bad smell. I’m not noticing any odour. Product arrived well packed in big box and shrink wrapped. Careful not to cut foam when cutting shrink wrap off on ends then the unrolling is easy but if you don’t cut off the ends it will get tangled up. Cut both sides first then unwrap. I expect it will hold up mattress just fine. I’m giving it till tomorrow to install. Looking forward to having elevated head. It will solve so many problems.

It's hard to know for sure if it's helping when I'm being careful in other ways. I do find that my neck muscles seem to have tightened up after using it, front and back and I sometimes wake up with a slight headache. But I'm still using the incline pad.

Good quality. Satisfied with purchase. It has maintained shape despite heavy weight (200lbs) on bed. Comes in 2 pieces (lengthwise). I purchased this item because it is recommended for patients with autonomic dysfunction/POTS. Thanks to this item I no longer have frequent bathroom trips in the night! If you have autonomic dysfunction I suggest using risers at the head of the bed before purchasing this item in order to adjust to sleeping with the entire bed on an angle. It took a long time for me to get used to it and I had to raise the head of the bed slowly over a period of many months before I purchased the mattress elevator.
