Is this product good to use?

It is working well for me so far. it uses latest smart home technology Matter, the future-proof technology. Linkind brand is great. I have their Matter smart light bulbs, once their plug lauched I got it. You can try it.

I use alexa and apple ecosystem, do I still need to download the linkind app AiDot first?

There is no need to download because this is Matter-enabled smart plug, you can connect directly through alexa or apple home app without downloading a third-party app, this is the benefit of Matter smart devices.

Do you need to have an alexa or homekit device first to use the alexa and apple home apps? Or can the app be used independently without these devices?

If you don't have the alexa or homekit devices, you can also connect it via Linkind's app AiDot. If you want use the alexa or apple home app to connect them, you need alexa or homekit devices/controller. You can see the detailed page, it may helpful.
