Great companion to Tapo dimmers in a whole-home system
TP-Link Tapo Matter Smart Light Switch – Voice Control with Siri, Alexa & Google Home This is another great piece of hardware in my TP-Link Tapo smart home setup. In my house these switches are used in places where dimming isn’t needed, such as ceiling fans, flood lights, and other fixtures that only require simple on/off control. I currently run a large Tapo ecosystem with more than 50 devices throughout the house including dimmers, switches, outlets, and plugs. These standard switches fit right into that system and have been very reliable. Setup through the Tapo app is simple and programming routines is straightforward. Once installed they integrate easily with the rest of the system and respond quickly to commands. I use them with Alexa for voice control, but the native routines inside the Tapo app are actually very powerful and work great for automations. The Matter support is another big plus since it allows local control and fast response times even if the internet connection drops. After about a year of use these switches have been stable and dependable just like the rest of my Tapo devices. And just for fun… Tapo, if you’re reading this—between Tapo, Kasa, and Omada gear I’ve probably spent a few thousand dollars building out this system!

Smart upgrade for home lighting!
I installed this 2‑pack of Tapo S505 smart light switches around my house and I’m really happy with how well they work. These switches let me control lights remotely via the Tapo app, or with voice commands using Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri, which is super convenient when my hands are full. The Matter compatibility means they integrate smoothly with other smart home systems and work reliably even when the internet is down — local control is responsive and fast. The schedule and timer features are great for automating my lights, and setup with the app was straightforward (just make sure you have a neutral wire in the switch box). Overall these switches are a great value for making regular lights “smart”, and the 2‑pack gives you flexibility for multiple rooms. Perfect for anyone upgrading to a more connected home!

Great, scalable solution for smart homes
I have installed about 40 of these (counting some S505D dimmer switches) in my home. These look good, work well, are easy to install. Out of the 40, only one arrived defective, and a dimmer switch broke because I was trying to operate a non-dimmable LED driver with it. Setup is somewhat slow, and the Tapo app does not support Matter setup. To work with Matter, they need to be set up via Google Home or whatever else you're using first. Then they can be added to the Tapo system. All of this is a bit slow if you're installing many switches at a time -- it would be nicer to be able to add all of them at once. The switches have minimal configurability. Other such products offer to turn off the relay (so it becomes a virtual switch that gets connected via software rules to do something). However, they do offer a "delayed shutoff" functionality, an "auto-off timer", and LED indicator config that includes a nice, automatic night mode that's great for bedrooms. Wifi connectivity is strong and reliable -- better than some SONOFF products I've tried, and no problems with DHCP leases running out like with many older products. Tip: I found that automations in the Tapo world run faster than via Google Home (which always goes via Cloud, even though you've got to have a local Matter server).

Great local-only control if desired
I just keep buying more of these. I can’t stand having to connect to an app for cloud usage of smart home stuff. That’s why I have Home Assistant and not Alexa or anything else mainstream. These work perfectly on local-only control through matter, zero issues and one of the easiest smart home devices to set up IMO. Oddly, to me, these switches all come with twisted wire coming out of the back of the body and use wire nuts for connection - no screwdriver needed other than installing them in the box (if you’ve got some extra wire, like me, just clip the wires from the old switches instead of removing screws - it’s much faster and clipping them gives a straight end so you don’t have to straighten a bend for the wire nuts or clip them anyway). Potential cons: Worst thing would be if you have crowded boxes, smart switches all take up more room than conventional switches. It’s possible your boxes will be over capacity depending on what you have. My wife complained about them early on, because they (and almost all smart switches) don’t work like conventional paddle switches. She didn’t like that you can only press the bottom of the switch to turn on or off, and wanted to be able to press the top for on and the bottom for off. It took me less than 24 hours to get used to it, but it did take her a little longer. She doesn’t complain anymore, but she wasn’t happy at the start! It helps that she can turn the light off without getting out of bed now…

Slim, Smart, and Simple
I recently installed the TP-Link Tapo S505 smart switches in my home, replacing an older 3-gang setup, and I’ve been really happy with how smoothly everything went. One of the first things I noticed is how much slimmer these switches are compared to older smart switches I’ve used. That might not sound like a big deal, but when you’re cramming three switches into one box with a bunch of wires, every millimeter counts. The reduced thickness gives you way more room in the back for wire management, which made the install way less stressful. And since they’re UL certified, I felt confident they’re safe to use without cutting corners. Wiring was surprisingly simple—especially the fact that either black terminal can be used for line or load. That’s a small but huge win because it means you don’t have to stress about matching the exact wire to the exact terminal. For someone who’s done a few DIY electrical jobs, that flexibility saves time and guesswork. The app setup was fast and intuitive, and within minutes, the switches were online and responding. I already use a bunch of TP-Link devices, so I’m familiar with their app, but even if you’re new, I think you’d find it straightforward. Bonus: once they were in the Tapo app, they showed up instantly in Home Assistant, which I use to control everything. No weird delays or pairing issues. The only thing to remember is that these need a neutral wire, so they won’t work in older setups that don’t have one. But if you’ve got the neutral, these switches are a solid choice—especially at this price. They’re reliable, responsive, and blend well into my smart home setup. I also like using the scheduling and timer features to turn lights on/off automatically.

Great Matter Smart Switches
Purchased a variety of Tapo smart switches (single pole, 3 and 4-way, dimmers) to replace stupid WEMO switches that were deprecated (class action lawsuit against belkin???). These were a quick and easy replacement for the Wemo switches and have the Matter option so even if TP-link shuts off their app like WEMO, they can still connect through Alexa/home hubs. They seem to be of good quality and thr app is great, including ability to monitor energy usage. After setup in the app, to connect with Alexa you go into the Tapo app, open the switch, click the gear, then get and copy the matter code. That is needed or thr QR code to add to Alexa. After adding to Alexa you can use the AI chat in Alexa to quickly setup rules (shut off the closet light after it has been on for 30 minutes) or (turn the fan on for ten minutes every hour between this time and this time on these days) and it quickly sets up the rules. That might have been the nicest part is easily replacing the Wemo rules I had spent time setting up. Definitely recommend these.

Great item. Easy install
Good product. Easy intelligent set up. Little problem with linking to Alexa. Did the link. Did not work. Slept on it and linked again the next morning. Works great Amazon Alexa. Get your act together. Looked like I linked from 2 different menus. Difficult to find the right page. Google pages were incorrect Good bye and good riddance Wemo Belkin. You have failed your customers. You wo’nt sell me any more of your products.
