How far in advance can you realistically inflate these?

Mine all stayed inflated (with regular air) for 3 days with no change in size. Most stayed fully inflated for 5+ days.

Yes but be very careful. Some pop without warning no matter how small. Almost took my eye out.

Do you have to have a helium tank to fill them or do they float with normal air?

They don't rise up in the air when filled with normal air. You can stick them together or on the walls, or just let them lie around on the floor.
