My Mold Detective is a Great Company and Their Mold Test Kit is the Real Deal
My wife and I recently purchased a home and wanted to make sure there wasn’t any mold in the home, especially because she is pregnant. We researched several DIY mold test kits and decided that My Mold Detective was the best product for our needs. We liked the My Mold Detective mold test kit because it is the same method that professionals use when they test your home but it is a fraction of the cost. You get to keep the product and you can test your home seasonally. Of course, you have to pay the fee for the lab analysis but it is totally worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing whether or not your home has mold. The report that you receive explaining your results is easy to understand and the customer support is great should you have any questions or want to know what your next steps are. We found the process to be simple and would definitely recommend this product!

Worst Website Ever
Have no idea if the product is any good as it is impossible to register for sending to the lab for testing. Wasted my money on this. The website is finally working, but the organization of the website is so poor, you can’t see a full page of information, if you miss something and try to go back to add it, it kicks you out. I tried to go back in and it now tells my that the log in name is taken. It keeps prompting to enter the Home Depot Code. I DID NOT purchase at Home Depot, so would not be eligible for it, but after the third prompt I ENTERED THE CODE ON THE PICTURE, AND AM TOLD IT IS INVALID. Do you have insane people programming your website? Was this website designed to driver customers to another provider. If you don’t have enough funding to have a functioning website, how can you compete? I REALLY, TRULY WANTED INDPENDENT LAB TESTING OF THE AIR QUALITY AND THE SETTLED DUST IN MY SON’S HOUSE. He is immune compromised and this is very important to me. To keep hitting these hard stops is just infuriating. I can’t imagine if the user was brain fogged from mold toxicity having any chance of making it through the convoluted, poorly thought out and just flat “programmed wrong” website. BTW, I use computers every single day for my work and have a programmer who is constantly improving my online data collection and our personally designed software application, so I am not ignorant of how this works. This has been done by some India sweatshop, or worse yet, your bother in law. It is a hot mess and I AM SO DONE WITH THIS COMPANY.

Works as advertised, however the lab testing is a little misleading
I bought this to test a room in my house where the occupant had complained of breathing problems and overall degradation of health. The pump works as advertised. You stick the air catch securely in the top, press the button and let it do its thing. However, I felt like I was led to believe the lab testing was $35 per sample without a minimum requirement, which technically it is $35 per sample but you have to have a minimum of two samples. So no matter what every time you send samples to the lab it will be a minimum of $70, with each additional sample at $35. I understand the significance of having an outdoor sample with every indoor sample because they can be related. But I only wanted to see the effect of mold remediation (was there a drop in count) and my outdoor sample was almost 0 the first time. The test results do not offer any insight into the relation of the two samples, they only report the numbers and it is up to you to interpret them.

The right choice for me - fast, easy and professional grade
I recently purchased the My Mold Detective Mold Test Kit after doing some research on a strange smell in one of the rooms of my house and nagging allergy issues i've been having. I came across a few options, some of which seemed to cost less, but saw a few other reviews on this product and thought this seemed like the higher quality/more professional device to test for mold. All the other kits I found contained one petri dish and it takes at least 48 hours to collect a sample versus my mold detective came with two cassettes and takes a sample in 5 minutes; the My Mold Detective sounded like the faster and easier option. I got the kit, performed the indoor and outdoor samples, registered the samples online and had them in the mail box within 30 minutes of opening the kit. I'm expecting results soon and i've already received an email update letting me know the samples were received by the lab. This was definitely the right choice for me and i'd recommend it others.

Broken pump, changed standards
Registering online and paying the extra $88 for lab testing for one room to compare with outside was tricky and took nearly 30". Then there was much confusion because the instructions pamphlet said to remove plastic flaps over the mold gathering area of the cassettes and put them back on once the collection was made. There were no plastic flaps. Nor were there any updated instructions online. It was only after I went through the whole box three times again that I found a small slip of paper saying "We apologize for the confusion. The manufacturer of the cassettes changed from paper flaps to plastic caps. Based upon overwhelming complaints about the difficulty of removing the plastic caps from the cassettes, our fulfillment team started removing the plastic caps and sealing the cassettes in the plastic sleeves. We've preemptively run a few checks by leaving un-capped cassettes open to determine if the efficacy of the cassettes would be affected and there was not a concern. The particulates in the air need to pass through the cassettes at a particular flowrate to become impacted in a gel agar on the inside of the cassettes. This does not take place unless the cassettes are utilized in conjunction with an air pump. This means you will skip the steps in the instructions regarding paper flaps and proceed with the rest of the instructions." Despite the explanation, I felt the solution was a lowering of test collection standards, as by then they'd been out of their plastic sleeves for over an hour with 2 different sets of hands on the cassettes in 4 different rooms trying to figure out how they worked. Then I tried to go ahead with the testing and the pump failed...pushing the "on" button got only a buzz and it wouldn't stay on. Since it was a Sunday, the business was closed and I couldn't reach anyone even though it was critical for me to take the test that day while mold counts were still high in my area and before the next day's anticipated rain. If I get a pump replacement quickly and get good lab results, I will update this review and possibly boost my rating, but for now, I'm very, very, very disappointed.

NOT A KIT: IT'S ALA CARTE
This mold test kit did as it says: tested for mold. As far as the "kit" with the little canisters and lift off tape, that part is debatable. Paying extra for the results? That should be part of the "kit". I purchased this thinking I would get some definitive results for a downstairs garage room. We live in an older part of San Francisco (near the ocean) and figured that there were some sort of fungus that is harmful. Did some research and purchased the kit. Of course the additional cost to have this analyzed was a bit of a surprise but did it anyway. Well, the results came back and it showed that it was wood mold. Hate to say this but anytime you have wood beams in the house near the ocean you would get decaying wood as dead wood is slowly decaying all the time, albeit ever so slowly. There is no visible signs of mold so I was hoping for something more strange. I checked various sources around the area and the way to alleviate mold: use a dehumidifier and air out the room. So far that has been working out well. I guess I have a number issues here: First is the little machine itself. I've used it once and there it sits. I'll probably offer it for no cost somewhere and the buyer would have to get their own supplies. I don't intend on using it again since wood mold is everywhere. I hate to toss it out. Next is the cost of the testing. That part is ridiculous. I know it costs to have things analyzed and that's part of business. I didn't find the testing to be all that helpful and that is just me. The final issue are the calls I kept getting from the company asking if I needed further information on the tests. After the second call, the response was the same so I had no further desire to hear about the mold, to have further testing and if I had any questions. Bottom line: You get what you paid for. I bought a machine that sits on a shelf. I have information that was minimally helpful. I would need to buy more "kit" supplies and pay for the analysis. I did it once, and that's it.

Does not offer any immediate results.
I bought this to test a vehicle that had a leak which resulted in internal standing water for a couple weeks. Strong mildew smell. I was looking for a kit that could tell mold levels, so I would know if my cleaning efforts were being successfully. Unfortunately, I was expecting at least some kind of immediate results from the test unit. Reading the Amazon product page indicated a detailed report, which I wasn't interested in, when sending samples to the lab. It wasn't clear that you get no results at all unless you send it to the lab. Maybe I read into the product a bit more than I should have because other mold test kits provide some immediate results, I was expecting the same here. Shame on me, but the listing could be a bit more clear on what to expect.

Convenient, Accurate and Fast
The test was quick and easy to run and the lab got me detailed results more quickly than I anticipated, setting my mind at ease that we did NOT have a mold issue in the room we tested. Just insert the cartridges into the tester, let it run until it stops (just a couple of minutes), label the control and the room cartridge, log onto the website, pay for the testing and insert your cartridge numbers. Within a couple of weeks I had detailed reports in my inbox. Super convenient, and I didn't have to face any contractors giving me inaccurate results just to sell me something.

I honestly can't say how good this product is on some fronts
I honestly can't say how good this product is on some fronts. The air pump seems powerful and that set was complete, so no real problems with the vendor, however instructions require you to ship the samples to the US for analysis, which you also shoulder the burden on. I've waited two weeks now since they confirm the samples received with no results as of yet. At this point it really feels like money wasted. I am hoping I'm wrong, but it seems unlikely at this point.
