Useful Thermal Paste Guard for AMD Ryzen CPUs
work well with AMD Ryzen AM5 processors. They help prevent paste spillage during installation and make cleanup easier. Fit is precise, and they’re durable enough to reuse a few times. A practical accessory for anyone building or maintaining a 7000 CPU.

Makes pasting AMD CPUs really easy for newcomers to AMD
This guard works really well with the 9900x CPU I use in my PC, if you have any anxiety about thermal pasting the unusual shape of recent AMD CPUs, this is for you. It keeps the past off the sides and makes it a joy for cleaning the CPU down when repasting. In fact its reusable and completely safe to leave on permanently. I've had it on my PC since March and have not noticed any detrimental effect on temperatures. Its really easy to install and you cant see it once your cooler is on, this guard seems alot safer for a beginner too than the fixed contact frames out there.

Does what it does
It fits around the IHS and mostly covers the edges that thermal paste might spill out into. I personally haven't checked to see if it is clean or not since I haven't had the need to remove my cooler.

A better alternative (UPDATED)
The ElecGear thermal paste guard is probably the best alternative to the similar Thermal Grizzly one, one of those contact frames where you have to mount a whole new ILM, or in general, the Noctua clear plastic guards. There is a video by the seller that shows how to install it. It's basically: lock your CPU in with the standard installation, use the marked corner in line with the marked ILM/CPU corner, pad in tightly, and go ham on thermal paste. There is a similar product that is just a copper plate that locks on top, but since we are early in adoption for AM5, there's no real test. However, this ElecGear thermal paste guard is pretty cheap compared to all the other ones. If I were to improve the product, it would be to develop a more stiff material and possibly lower the price. The single guard is good enough for a long time unless you are someone who breaks things easily, so selling a single for a lower price may entice more people. This product is also tight enough to use liquid metal, as it looks, but at that point, it'd be recommended to use direct die gear since the IHS is already very thick, which is going to be your main issue anyway. UPDATED 11/22 - There may be a defect but after using this on a couple rigs and recommending to friends, some may get cover guard that just breaks or slightly melts after a decent period. This may be a thermal paste interaction or long standing heat/suction from a cooler. I would still recommend this product but if you are using a super high end chip or cooler try a contact frame or alternative metal version of a thermal paste guard.

Does the job well.
The AM5 CPU guard does what it’s supposed to do. It’s very flexible and takes seconds to add on. Performance wise I feel that it realistically meets it. I liked that it came in a pair as I will use the the other cpu guard for another build. Small note, that it’s very hard to clean the thermal paste off of silicon material so don’t worry about the cleanliness of the material.

A small investment with big results!
This rubber guard keeps the thermal paste from going all over the CPU. It acts as a gasket for my Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Cooler. My computer's CPU runs nice and cool with it installed. If I need to reinstall my CPU or my cooler, I know it won't be a big mess, if I do! This was a great investment for my Ryzen 7 - 7700x "Raphael".

Does a Simple Job Very Well
Installs easily and keeps my Ryzen cpu clean despite the oddball shape of the cpu. That’s what I bought it for, and that’s what it does.

Does the Job
Material is flimsy. But I guess it does the job

Very useful little silicone gasket that keeps the thermal goop getting into the nooks and crannies of an AM5 processor to a minimum. When properly installed it sits below the highest points of the CPU and does not get in the way of the fit between the processor and the cooler. To top it off, it is dead easy to install because you do not need to remove the CPU hold-down device to install it. It is installed after the CPU is installed and locked down in the CPU frame. A huge plus for the safety of your VERY delicate CPU socket (ask me how easy it is to bend those pins and destroy a motherboard that costs hundreds of dollars!) Highly recommended over the "anti-bending" frames out there that at do require the removal of the stock CPUI hold down device. FYI: AMD AM5 CPUs have thick heat spreaders and do not require an aluminum frame to keep them from bending!

It comes in a pack of two, is made of good quality silicone and fits nicely to keep thermal paste clean from the edges if you need to remove the CPU or repaste. I use it to prevent overspill. It also doesn't increase temps compared to without it, if anyone was wondering if the guard would act as an insulating layer.
