Nostalgia trip for adults of an age
I had a forty plus year memory of this film being broadcast on TV in the UK. I bought it due to vague recollection and nostalgia. Fascinated that Butch Patrick starred (better known for his work in The Munsters). The film hasn't aged well. I think younger kids will find it too educational - hammer to crack a walnut style messages! Still, nicely done and made me more nostalgic for the 70s.

A Classic Colourful Film From A Long Ago Era in the Same Genre as Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland
A Great Little Gem of late 1960's dual live-action/animated Film, with a bubbly musical soundtrack in parts and starring a young Butch Patrick (from the 60's TV series The Munsters). The story has an intelligent allegorical message for children in the same genre as the Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland, but starring a boy instead of a girl as the leading actor and protagonist. Totally underestimated and almost forgotten (the original 1961 best-selling book is far more well known), thus only released as a MOD-DVD (Manufactured On Demand) from the Warner Home Video back catalogue. Despite the film's moderate box office success and delaying of its release (being December 1972 in the UK four years after filming began in 1968!), the film has voice overs from various big stars of its day (Mel Blanc-Looney Tunes and Daws Butler-Yogi Bear). A film remake is finally in the pipeline from Warner Bros, long overdue, it should be fantastic and like the original recommended to uplift children and the family.

Kids love it!
This film is positively reviewed elsewhere on the web and was as good as I remembered it from watching when i was about 10 years old.Only reason for 4 stars is that the technical quality of this DVD is not great. The quality issue is not related to this being an NTSC DVD played on a European TV. It is just that a very grainy print was used when mastering.

Great fun
A wonderful film which reflects the book very well and is brilliantly animated by the peerless Chuck Jones.

Fast delivery of a unique 1970's film.
I was amazed & thrilled to find this film having watched it as a child and being totally enchanted by it. I haven't watched it yet as it's a Xmas gift from my daughter, and, although the graphics will be totally outdated, I'm sure I'll enjoy it & relive my youth! Great seller.
