Classic Starts®: Little Women

This children’s version of the original Louisa May Alcott novel is very appropriate for young readers without being overly simplified. My 7 year old granddaughter sat down to read the story on Christmas Day and was immediately engrossed, asking perceptive questions about the characters and their relationships. I recommend it!

This book is a perfectly delightful retelling of the story of Little Women. It reads well using language that the younger reader can understand and enjoy. It is even a great book for adults who want to visit the story in a short amount of time.

This is a must have if your daughters are into chapter books. My daughter who is 10 loves to read and has always love to read. I can't remember if I bought this when she was 9 or 10 but it is a great book and after she read it we watched the movie together. Another great book she loves is Anne of Green Gables and every year for Christmas she gets a new book in the series. She loves them and really loved this. It is easy to read and hard cover, it didn't take her very long but she will sit and read for over an hour at a time some times.

I bought this for a little girl I know who's learning English. I had gotten us tickets to a local production of the play, and I wanted her to know the story and characters before we went. For this purpose, it was fine, but, of course, the actual, unabridged book is much richer.

Fantastic intro to a classic novel for the young reader. I homeschool my kiddos and use Classic Starts alongside the original novels as I teach multiple ages. As they get older the littles can revisit the original, but are able to enjoy the stories now without the complex prose and vocabulary of the original work. Highly recommend.

I love the classics and try to share with my granddaughters the same love. My 11 years old granddaughter loved the book, she shared it with her 5th grade teacher who told my granddaughter that her Babcia (grandma in Polish) is cool.

Every little girl should have this in their book collection. My daughter hasn't read it,it was delivered today but she is looking forward to it.

Most children have probably seen one version or another of this wonderful classic so this is a great way to read it. It is abbreviated and short enough to hold interest. When I was a child I wore out a copy ,of what would be called these days a graphic version ,with wonderful illustrations. I wish that the illustrations in this version were better drawn and more colorful.

This is an abridgement and nowhere does it say so. If you want the full book do not buy this.
