Microphone is not working on my windows 10 using USB

For some of Laptop systems, you might need to set the sound equipment to the USB Headset for the first time use. Control panel > Sound > Recording > Microphone (USB Audio Device) > Playback > Speakers (USB Audio Device). Pls make sure to set the USB Audio Device as default. Not convinced this is a new( i.e. not used) product bag was not sealed and it smells of cleaner/disinfectant. Could it be a return? Not very hygienic.

I have the usb version, however when i plug into my HP laptop only the mic works - the headset is not recognised, any ideas?
