Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries : Fawcett, Heather: desertcart.in: Books Review: Enchanted cozy fantasy - The book is written in journal or diary form. Every chapter is a date entry. The book started slowly. But it was getting more interesting as the story continued. Many things started happening. The author has given some additional information on some subjects at the end of some pages. The book is very descriptive. There are little dialogues in it. There are some folktales in the story. I loved those tales. I love the characters. Emily is not good at making friends. It's not that she doesn't try. She tries, but she can't. Wendell is the opposite of Emily. He really gets along with people quickly. There is very little romance in the book. I loved the small moment Emily and Wandell shared in the book. I loved that the author explored the dark side of the faerie world and its effects on the mortal world. I enjoyed the vibe that the book gave me. . The book took me to a different world, and I loved that world. I enjoyed the visual I was imagining. Mountain, forest, snow, winter, cottage, faerie, etc. This book is a great winter read. Review: Good cozy fantasy - This was my book club's pick for the month. This book has been on and off my TBR for so long that I was dreading it when the time finally came, but after a couple of chapters, it turned out to be quite fun. Honestly, it only made it to my TBR because of the beautiful character art I stumbled across once. I really liked Emily—she was the perfect FMC. The writing was cozy, with easy-to-understand world-building. I have no idea how Emily put up with the villagers' nonsense at the beginning, though I can see where they were coming from. Wendell was hilarious—I loved him too. Contrary to my earlier expectations, I quite enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a short and sweet read. I liked the ending, and hopefully, I'll get to the sequel too (though it’s not very high on my TBR).

Superb story
This is a book that everyone interested in fantasy should read. It could be defined as cozy fantasy, at the same time at places it gets too errie. There is a bit of romance elements too. I loved it.

4.2 stars; Entertaining & fun
What I Like: Emily and Wendell are easy characters to read. I’m sure many introverts can see the real Emily behind her no-nonsense exterior. Wendell, well… he reminded me of Hercule Poirot at times, though the two of them belong to opposite ends (or may not). The interaction between the lead pair is a treat. Their sassy responses sometimes border on rude, but hey, it is fun. They are comfortable in each other’s presence, which shows in their conversations. Poe is a delightfully cute character. Shadow is the stark opposite but another good character in the book. Aud and Lijja were the other two characters I like. The setting is atmospheric and vivid without tons of lyrical prose. It helps that Emily isn’t the type to waste her energy on poetic descriptions of the forests, trees, etc. But… (more in the next section). The last part of the story isn’t what I expected, but it still works well. I like how everything ties up to complete the plot while leaving the subplot open for the sequel. The HFN ending did make me happy. It stays true to the character arcs, so that’s another advantage. Of course, I have high hopes for the next book. There’s a bibliography at the end (mine is an electronic copy), which is just as entertaining with snippets of information and personal comments. I also like the folktales shared in the book even though the ones in the middle are distracting and slow down the plot. What Could Have Been Better for Me: The writing isn’t easy to read. We are reading Emily’s journal, but the roundabout writing is irksome at times. Also, it makes the narration painfully slow. The % just doesn’t move. The book has 330+ pages but feels like a 400+ page book because of this. The romance is non-existent. My expectations were less, given Emily’s character, but I couldn’t get even the minimum. Going into the book for romance will be disappointing. I hope there will be some in the sequel. That one scene that propels the story forward in the second half feels a little too abrupt. I see why it seems that way. This is Emily’s journal, after all. Yet, I’d prefer it to be smoother. To summarize, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries is a fun book about a mousy scholarly girl, faeries, and some magic. The plot is mostly light, but there are a few disturbing scenes that can give you the creeps. Looking forward to the second book. (Did I mention how adorable Wendell is?) Thank you, NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK, and Orbit, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Fantastic, wonderful story
This book wasn't on my radar. I might have seen this here and there but as i was browsing the kindle I came across this book. I loved the cover! It's stunning. I didn't even read the blurb and started immediately. The book start was quite slow with a lot of info - which makes sense. This is her encyclopaedia and most of it is written as a journal entres! This 300 page book felt like 600! But as it moved it became more interesting and action started quite at 30%! The stories, the old tales are very fascinating as if reading old fairytales of Faeries. The world building is very precise and elaborate. I loved Wendell. Best free flag bookboyfriend! I adored him and his he always protected Emily even if she was being unreasonable! They both are a perfect match for each other! This book requires patience so read this when you have some time to chill and relax as it will transport you to the magical world of Faeries.

Cracked spine
The star is for the condition of the book. The book is made in such a way that when I open the middle pages of the book the spine literally cracks and wrinkles. There's NO way to prevent that from happening. I wish I found about it before the 7 day replacement policy ended. I can't even return it anymore. The book is beautiful and the cracked spine ruins it :(

I absolutely loved this book. The whole concept of a journal with little footnotes and faeries as an entire field of science made this book an entertaining read. In addition, I just loved the mood that was set throughout the entire story: dark and mysterious, very eerie and even gory in some parts but then also heartwarming, cozy and really funny in other parts. The story contained profound emotion and dramatic developments but also lighthearted parts. There was a great amount of witty banter and conversations filled with sassy comments and the characters were each very enjoyable. Emily was flawed but that made her all the more real and unique, she was smart and often very relatable. Wendell had his flaws as well but they, too, gave him a strong voice of his own and both of their flaws created a special sort of harmony. I also enjoyed reading about Thora, Poe, and Shadow whenever they crossed the pages - they were side characters that I immediately took to my heart. All in all, I can say that I can't wait for the second book and that I can totally recommend this read.

There are some books that truly change your brain chemistry. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, you feel it immediately. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries had that effect on me from page one. 📖✨ The writing, the plot, the characters—everything was so brilliantly crafted, so fresh, and so genius that I know I’ll be obsessing over this book for the rest of my life. 😍 Emily's analytical mind combined with her total lack of social awareness made every interaction, especially between her and Wendell, incredibly engaging. I loved how the author gave us glimpses of Wendell’s thoughts while still maintaining the structure of Emily’s journal. In just a few pages, Wendell’s voice is clear and distinct without detracting from the fact that this is Emily’s story. I can’t find the right words to fully praise this author. She did an amazing job, and I refuse to spoil any more of it—this is a book everyone needs to read! I want a movie, a TV series, a soundtrack—I want my life to be this book! It’s simply AMAZING.

Although I expected it before Christmas (advertised for delivery on the 23 December but it arrived on the 2 January) book looks good and my daughter is looking forward to reading it.

Chegou um pouco atrasado e o livro não veio com nenhum tipo de proteção dentro da caixa, por isso acabou amassando um pouco a capa. Dito isso, o livro é muito lindo e a história é bem interessante.
