Cursive Writing Ages 4-5: Ideal for home learning (Collins Easy Learning Preschool)

This is a great book. My daughter is learning cursive writing at school and this helps break it down for extra practice. She really enjoys the activities at the bottom of each page where you choose which letter goes in the gap. It would be even better if it was wipe-clean but all good with pencil! A great support for schoolwork. My daughter is 4 and it is a perfect addition to her homework.

This really helped my 7year old confidence with her writing she got so many compliments from her teachers her handwriting improved within in days we do 10 minutes daily she loves it

I bought this for my 4 year old to help her practice her cursive over half term, she loved it and was really proud of herself for being able to write on her own. Definitely recommend for any child getting to grips with cursive. The exercises are laid out in such a way, that it also allows the child to work alone without too much input from a grown up.

Great for home learning and easy to use. My son loved completing the book during lock down and his writing has improved too! Very pleased. I asked him to use a pencil so we can rub it out and repeat the book in future.

It’s very simple and fun for my five year old to practise during school holidays. The book has organised the letters very well. It’s not too much, just one page with two letters or one, which can hold my five year old’s concentration.

We teach cursive in our school- it is very difficult to find resources to direct parents to and although Twinkl is great, it is nice to have a book to hand. There are red dots to show where to start the letters, but then not much guidance on how to form the letter from there- so unless you are sat with someone that knows, the child could just be blindly going over the lines or at worst, being taught wrong, and then would need to be 'retaught'. The book also sets the letters in a strange order. You would think nowadays book publishers would know that letters are not taught from a-z, but mainly taught using the letters and sounds programme- ie, s, a, t, p, i, n first etc. You would think they would then publish books introducing letters in that order- but alas no. Nice to have a cursive book for a change but you simply cannot replace the 'teaching' input.

As an absolute starter book, this is okay. There are excellent diagrams for each lower case letter to demonstrate how to write them. To practice each of these, there are only 4 letters to trace and 4 spaces for a child to try freehand. There are two letters per page, except page 7 and 12 that feature only a single letter. At the bottom of the lower case letter page are words with one missing letter each - requiring the insertion of one of the practice letters on that page. There are two pages devoted to the 26 capital letters - with a single tracing opportunity for each letter only. There is no comprehensive diagram showing how to write these. These letters are non-cursive. At the end of the book, there are 24 writing words to trace and copy - but the letters j, q, v, x, y and z are not included. The letters in these words are still written singly, and not joined up. To call this a 'cursive' writing book is somewhat of a misnomer. It teaches the individual lower case letters, but not how to join them. The practice opportunity afforded by this book is minimal (it is only 24 pages long). There is a good 'How to use this book' guide for adults together with some useful learning tips. As a child complete the pages, there are progress stars to color-in. There is a certificate on the last page of the book. I think the book is still worth buying as an introduction to cursive writing, but I was left disappointed as it doesn't fully do what its 'cursive writing' title suggests.

Achat pour l'une de mes nièces, très fâchée avec l'écriture... De même que l'autre cahier, elle s'y est mise, je pense que la méthode lui convient. C'est très bien expliqué, me dit-elle.

GOOD book to practice cursive writing. the only downside, i think it is for intermediate kids because the letters are random. not really for begginers. i hope there is a book mainly for beginners and in order.
