Does m and Ms Work in this machine?

yes, M&Ms would work. they are cute but nothing fancy. However the kids loved them.

Would goldfish crackers be ok in this?

The goldfish crackers might be too big for these are kinda small gumball machines. You might have to buy a six pack and just try to see if they work for you.

Will work for my 3-year-old granddaughter?

Great product. Have given them out at birthday parties and kids love them. Make sure that gumballs and or candy are of appropriate size so kids don't choke.
