HIVIZ Ruger SR9 Overmolded Fiber Optic Front Sight (Green)

I personally installed a green hi-vis on my SR9c stainless slide after watching many you-tube videos about how to install. I inadvertantly filed a little too much off the sight base, but an uluminum shim fixed it up fine and tight. Indoors at night with only four 4watt nightlights, the sights are no advantage over stock white dot (NON tritium). What I've done is purchased an inexpensive Dorcy 9 LED 3AAA size Angle Head Flashlight ($6) and velcro'd it to the left side grip and high enough up where the flashlight makes the hi-vis dot glow like a trafficlight, while still letting me have a regular grip on the gun. My concern is how repeated draw & reholstering for my IDPA competion is gonna bang up the less than streamlined sight...time will tell.

When I first bought my Ruger SR9, I took it to my local indoor range. I fell in love with the gun and thought I could improve the already good sighting by putting this green HiViz front sight on. Not so much... It actually was hard to see the green dot in the indoor range. Which concerns me if I had to grab the gun at night for self defense. It does seem to glow nicely though in normal light. The sight is also about twice the size of the factory sight and snags a little in my holster. My gunsmith who installed it said he would put my factory sight back on for no charge (which is nice of him). It's your choice, but I was a little dissapointed. Dang!

Even though this is a good sight and is very visible under moderate lighting conditions, it is NOT a night sight. Should you be considering your weapon for home defense, keep in mind you will not be able to see it in a darkened room. I'll be replacing this sight with tritium sights for that reason.

Replaced the stock front sight on my SR9c with this sight and am very impressed with the results. The green orb is much easier to pick-up in conjunction with the rear white-dot sights. I would recommend having a professional install this sight if the use of a sight removal tool isn't available. Using the removal tool made this a 5 minute job. As to the effectiveness of this sight in tandem with a mounted light, the front sight will just about glow when the light is on. This sight is very efficient and doesn't need much ambient light to increase visibility.

Some web information (not Amazons) indicated that this would work on the SR40. The beefier SR40 slide meant extensive fitting to get it to work. We did it, but probably shouldn't have. Sight itself is good, but I have since seen one in red that seemed brighter.

This is a great sight. I had to have them adjust them after the install but loved the view.However be aware these are much higher than the stock sights and needed to have the rear sight adjusted to be on target.

I have a Ruger SR9 and a SR40 and purchased two HiViz front sights with hopes of assisting my ageing eyes with a quicker sight acquisition. I will stay with the Ruger factory sights as the HiViz sights are way smaller and even on a sunny day, very much darker than the factory dot. I have HiViz front sights on all of my shotguns and love them. They are much larger and waaay brighter than the ones that I purchased for my handguns. Won't get bit by that dog again.

Hi-viz has great products but this one does not seem as bright as some. Still works good. I will buy again from Hi-viz. Also fit for Ruger SR9 was not without some filling on base of sight.
