Only the cutting blade and plates are made of metal. Everything else is a good quality plastic. It's designed in such a way that it is very easy to clean. No little nooks or crannies for meat to get stuck.I was dubious about the suction base but it works great on my granite worksurface and ceramic kitchen table. Very secure. Never feels like it's coming off and doesn't slide around. It's a right handed device so if you're a lefty like me then it can feel a bit clumsy but it wasn't a major issue.I did struggle a little mincing pork belly. It's not brilliant with high fat content of the meat. None the less it did the job.Great little device if you only mince say a kg of meat once a week.
