how do i get it to switch to the uk band, i press function and power on then i get the band menu but i cant get it to stick on u or uk

Power off. Hold FUNC and P6 down while booting up. When powered rotate main knob until it says "CB FRQ". Press and hold the main knob and it'll go into a reset and power up. Probably in EU band. Power down and again hold FUNC and P1 and power up. Select U band and hold down the the main knob. How you need to find the BND function and select that and rotate the main knob for UK. Dose this set have a built in Swr meter as it says Swr meter in description.If so do you need to use an additional unit to tune the aerial

Internal SWR meter is spot on. I'd advise checking the initial calibration with a 50ohm dummy load but it did seem to be pre-calibrated and is always on when Tx, flips to Rx meter when in standby and top meter stays as Tx power meter throughout.

Yes, legal in UK and europe as long as correct band is chosen

if i purchased 2 of these, and gave one to someone 8-10 miles away, would we be able to communicate with eachother or would it not pick up a signal ?

In CB mode you should be able to transmit to each other. Distance depends on terrain hope this answers your question
