Fantastic book!
I have the first edition and also this updated 3rd edition. They offer the equivalent of a two-semester course in art history.

Passed the Art Praxis 5134!!!!! On the first try!
Passed the Art Praxis 5134 on the first try with above average scores BECAUSE OF this!!!!!!!!! I read almost all of it from cover to cover and most of the questions were word for word taken from this book. I also committed a couple of random Quizlets that I found to memory and studied from the free practice test questions that Praxis gives you, but the vast majority of the questions came from the information on the first four-fifths of this book. Plus it was pretty interesting to read and all the visuals really helped me commit artwork to memory!!!

Helped me pass the Art Praxis (5134)
I crammed this in just over a week, and it was incredibly helpful in giving me an overall picture of art history. It doesn't give thorough understanding of art-making, but I wasn't expecting it to. 10/10 a great book to have on your shelf--even if you're just a casual art appreciator. Honestly, it increased my interest in knowing more about artists and the art they create.

Perfect Art History Overview
The Annotated Mona Lisa is an outstanding crash course in art history. This third edition is well-organized, easy to follow, and filled with illustrations that bring each time period to life. It covers everything from prehistoric art to modern movements, making it a great reference for students, teachers, or anyone who wants to better understand the big picture of art history.I love how it simplifies complex topics without dumbing them down—perfect for quick learning or review. The visual layout keeps it engaging, and it’s much less intimidating than a traditional textbook. Highly recommended as a supplement for art classes or as an enjoyable read for anyone curious about art’s evolution.

Essential
I have a giant art history book from college. Like, it’s 10 pounds cause I had to haul it with me on a study abroad trip big. This little volume is the condensed down version I needed to study for an art history test. Yes I could have use my giant volume, but it takes time to weed through the information to get to what is most relevant. This book did all that work for me, and I was able to pass my test easily at a professional level. It was easy to take it with me and read whenever I had extra time.

Easy to read
Love the accessibility of how it is written. I think this book does a great job at summarizing a broad spectrum of art history. If you’re using this for the Art Praxis, it’s relevant.
