Black Sails: Complete Series One & Two [DVD]

Being a huge pirate fan I had to give this a try, especially as this is the prequel to the treasure island story, one of my all time favourite stories. Well Black Sails starts about 10 years before the treasure island story, & does tell the story of Flint, Silver, Bones, & the crew, but also shows a realistic depiction of pirate life, politics, the rise to power, as well as the fall from grace. The show does mainly centre around Flint, & does tell how he become the pirate he was, by a series of flash backs...but also tells the story of Charles Vane. Like the othe review I to noticed the Americanisms, which are frequent despite it being a mainly all British cast, but that doesn't take anything away from the show.There is frequent scenes of a sexual nature, & very ripe language, but hey it's depicting pirate life, so it is expected...however be warned this is not Pirates of the Caribbean, & it's a long stretch away from Jack Sparrow, not taking anything away from Jonny Depp, or the Pirates movies (Kick ass) but Black Sails stands on its own, keeping you on your seat at the end of every episode...so if like me, & pirates are your thing, then this is the show for you!

Along with several other variants of this largely entertaining series this box set Seasons 1 & 2, 7 disc set, all 18 episodes, from executive producer Michael Bay, does NOT have English subtitles. Amazon's description is incorrect in stating that there are English subtitles, and it is an error on several different versions of 'Black Sails' box sets.I did try watching this but found some of the dialogue sounded mumbled and I needed subtitles to fully appreciate the nuances of the plot. Rather than give this series one star for Amazon's incorrect description and the absurdity of the lack of subtitles in this day and age when one in six people in the UK suffer from hearing difficulties I have given this box set three stars, so as to not unfairly downgrade the show as I wasn't able to give it proper justice.Unsurprisingly Anchor Bay are involved in this series, a company who rarely include English subtitles in their dvd's whether they are of tv series or films.

Black Sails season one and two in hi-def on bluray. What can I say. Brilliant, clever and dark prequel to Treasure Island. It’s worth watching the first two seasons just for the final episode of season two! If you love pirate stories, you like Treasure Island, and you like your drama dark and gritty, then I think you’ll love this.

Pirates, sun, sea, rum (thats not gone), prostitution, piracy and gold, but no black sails (in all fairness its not the Black Pearl that Flint is the captain of). I won't give any spoliers, but the first 2 episodes seem a bit slow but then it picks up and by episode VI you'll be hooked. 5 seasons should be enough so they don't kill it and repeat storylines.

For season 1 and season 2 which are both gripping and so well acted and directed for the price of 18 pounds is a bargain! I would recommend anyone to read the reviews from this series and to buy this if you have the chance and also if you like pirates :)!

Love this series, found it completely by accident and am now totally hooked. A cracking show with all the elements a good show needs including hot leading men!! Ladies will love it as well as men, would recommend, this box set I bought as a gift for one of my friends who is now also loving the show, series 3 already pre ordered, can't wait!!!! Give it a go, I don't think you will be disappointed.

This is a great series. It's not a comedy at all, but does have light moments which I think do add to it. The casting is excellent and a good plot line with the past being revealed well as it develops.

Purchased this as a pressie, have checked one DVD sound quality and picture good - if all the others are as good why would you buy new. Effecient seller would use again.
