Not just a NAS, a full-on network appliance and home media server.
I used this to replace a Drobo 800fs that had never lived up to my hopes for it. Thanks to this boxes generous 8GB of memory and quad-core processor, I've been able to move many of the services from my old window's "media server" such as Plex, TeamSpeak, sabnzbd+, etc. So while this costs a bit more than an entry level NAS, being able to decommission a full-sized PC will more than cover the cost in saving on power and maintenance. Also great that you can add a UX800P expansion unit to support an additional 8 drives if you ever run low on space. My only regret is that I'm not sure if I should have waited a bit and picked up the newer i7-based QNAPs that are shipping.

Features galore!
I'm in love with this thing. I really was after a NAS with some limited functionality. The most difficult piece was the support of my macs and time machine from many systems. This thing does that out of the box. Since having it, I have found at least a 12 uses for it that I would have never thought to use it for. Now, I'm going to need another just so I can turn on more things!

Overkill for home, but why would you want less?
Upgraded from HS-210 to this unit was a snap and now running RAID10 with cold spare sitting on top.Performance is quite high and I have loaded 2 small VMs using the virtualization station application just for fun.
