Huion KAMVAS GT-221 Pro HD Drawing Monitor Pen Display with 10 Press Keys and 8192 Pressure Sensitivity - 22.1 InchI used to love sketching and painting back in high school but I let my art go as I got older. But my love of comic books and anime never went away, so I decided that I should get back into it. I've always liked watching youtube video's of digital art speed painting and comic book line art and kept seeing people using pen displays and thought it would be a great way to start re-learning to draw.Being a tech fan, I started researching graphics pen display's and kept seeing Wacom displays but I don't have that kind of money. lolI had a chance to try an Apple Ipad Pro 12.9 inch and while it was very nice to draw on, I wasn't happy being semi locked in to apple software and the difficulties in basic file transfers to my Windows 10 PC really bugged me so I returned it. I then tried the latest Microsoft Surface Pro and that was very nice. Almost perfect but the screen was a bit to small for Photoshop. So I figured I'd go for a larger Pen Display that I could use with my main computer.I saw a lot of good review on youtube for the Huion GT 191 and the Huion GT-221 Pro and while it was a bit more expansive than I was wanting to spend, I'm very glad I got it. So far it's been almost the perfect solution for what I wanted. Zero issue's with driver installation and performance has been great. I use the GT-221 mainly with Photoshop CC and Clip Studio Paint and I'm loving the pressure sensitivity and the feel of the pen is also very good. I will say that the hotkey buttons on the side are handy but to be honest I don't use them as much as I thought I would. I probably should have gone for the lower cost GT-191 that doesn't have the buttons but either way it's a great device.I'm really enjoying relearning sketching and while I still have a long way to go with my comic art it's nice to know I have a good device to work with.The only con for the GT-221 I can find is that I wish it was a 2k or maybe even a 4k display. But even as a 1080p display the colors and clarity are still very good.It's really nice to see other companies giving Wacom a run for the money in this area of technology. EDIT: 6 months later and it's still fantastic. Get this.I've tried the Wacom Cintiq Pro 13, the Cintiq 22HD, and this tablet.This one wins.Not only is it literally half the price of the 22HD, it is SUPERIOR.The screen size on the Cintiq Pro 13 was simply too small. I draw on large paper usually, so drawing in the notecard-sized drawing area of the Cintiq Pro 13 was tedious. The mechanics were great and the lines were smooth, etc., but it just wasn't for me.The 22HD was BULKY. It was like its own computer. Not only that, there was noticeable parallax (See my answer to the question below if you don't know what a parallax is), the lines looked pixellated, and there's a bird's nest of cords and adapters you had to use to use Cintiqs on most computers. The hardware on the 22HD is heavy and outdated. I was surprised to learn they haven't updated the hardware for the 22+ inch models for years. Only the smaller 13 and 16 inch models.The Huion tablet not only *looks* better than the 22HD, with less parallax, with the same sort of textured drawing surface that the Wacom has, but it's also nice and slim and portable. And it adjusts better to exactly the angle you want it to be.I mentioned the birds nest of cords for the Cintiqs. Wacom Pros and the 22HD work with USB-C ports which most computers don't have, or DVI ports which most computers don't have, or mini Displayports which most computers don't have. 90% of computers out there have HDMI and VGA for display input. That's it. The Huion tablet works with either a DVI, an HDMI, OR a VGA. The connection is nice and simple and universal.Setup was a breeze. Turn the tablet on, install the driver, restart your computer, calibrate the pen, and start drawing.I'm having a lot of fun with this.ONE single con that I don't really care about but maybe you do: The screen isn't as sharp HD as a high-end computer monitor. That is, the tiny arial fonts on websites (like the fonts below the search bar on this site) look like they could be a little sharper. BUT, I am using a VGA connection instead of a higher-quality HDMI connection, that might be an issue of my own doing. BUT, Images and drawings look sharp. It's just some of the small fonts that look a little smoother on websites, for example, than on ultra-HD monitors.EDIT: Second con: The response time for drawing lines quickly is *slightly* slower than on the Cintiq Pro 13. NOT slower than the 22HD. But, I don't mind it. It's fine and you can easily get used to it. Definitely not a reason not to get it. I just want to keep this review as honest as possible.First day review: Amazing so far. I'll answer any questions you have about this. I'm particularly excited about this because I was regrettably spending twice as much for the price-gouging Cintig 22HD and returned it (because of a faulty touch strip, no less), and this ended up being superior. in all aspects. I want this company to do well. Look at my profile and see that I have plenty of reviews of all kinds of random products, so you know I'm not some Japanese guy working for Huion talking up the tablet for sales.Note: I wouldn't have focused so much on the Cintiqs' drawbacks in this review if Wacom weren't price-gouging so much just because they lead the market.There are so many artists that would love to be able to create digital art with a nice tablet, and Cintiq makes it impossible for them by charging way more than is reasonable for their products.
