ON 12" How high is the flame?

I've got my 18" Burner Ring covered with lava rock and a few ceramic logs. Using a 20# propane tank with a 10# adjustable regulator, I can set the flame to be anywhere from 6" to 36". However, the the higher the flame the faster your going to run out of propane. I've found that with the flame set at about 12", we get adequate heat and we can spend about 6-8 evenings (1-2 hours) on the back porch before i have to refill the bottle.

If using natural gas what type of regulator do i need?

Dont need if gas pressure is not high, if it is then a gas regulator made for nat gas to go to 3.5 inches of water column.

For the Jet Burner ring, since the flame is so high, is it unsafe to use in windy conditions?

I don't turn mine up very high. Usually keep it only about 12 to 14 inches. Be smart where you place your pit. The wind does not cause problems for me
