ART SPLITMix 4 Four Channel Passive Splitter/Mixer

I set out to find a reasonably priced solution to an annoying problem but this was the answer. I needed an audio splitter to send out a single audio signal from a small mixer (Yamaha 6 channel Mixer) to 4 sets of speakers around the venue. I have searched online but could not find a product even close to the ART SPLITMix4 in existence so hats off to the designers at Applied Research Tech (ART). Try it yourself - just do a search for speaker splitters. Nothing has it's compactness and portability. Berringer makes a model which has more channels out to more speakers and a few tweaking features but it's rack mountable (not really portable). This unit is literally around 4 inches wide and can fit in any backpack or small carrying case. It's use is as simple as it come - there is no power supply needed. Had it out of the box and working perfectly in 3 minutes. Just plug in from your mixer (1/4" audio line) to the input and and plug out to (up to) 4 sets of speakers from the 4 outputs - all with separate volume controls for zoning. That's it. It's durable with rubber feet to stay still on a flat surface and the only other accessories you need are the 1/4" audio lines: 1 from your mixer to the unit and one for each output (4 available but each can go to sets of speakers - not just one). This was the perfect solution for our needs. I highly recommend this for a restaurant, home or small venue scenario where you want to ZONE sets of speakers around a venue or in separate rooms with controllable volumes for each zone. For the price, it can't be beat. NOTE: We're talking professional live / DJ speakers with 1/4" inch jacks and connections - not home theater equipment. One thing they don't tell you the description is if you are summing 4 stereo sources into one output, you will need to get 0.25 inch male TRS to two 0.25 inch female TS adapters so that you can truly mix 4 stereo pairs of signals into one stereo pair. Once you get those adapters, the SPLITMix works well. Very transparent sound in my setup where I have both a Line 6 Helix and Fractal Audio Axe FX-II summed into one stereo power amp and studio monitors so that I can easily compare presets that I am making with both units when creating presets for the impulse response (IR) cab files that I sell. If you need a down and dirty line mixer on the cheap that doesn't sound like it's there, this is the one you want to get.

This does what I needed to do, which was to downmix 4 stereo tracks to 1. In my application, I'm recording 1 stereo track at a time anyway, but I wanted to ease plugging and unplugging burden on my audio interface (Roland Super UA - superb centerpiece of my bedroom studio). The output of each input is attenuated quite a bit, so be wary of the noise floor.

I bought this unit to add volume controls to an Apogee Element 88 audio interface. The Element has two headphone out channels (1/4" stereo jacks). Normally, you connect two sets of headphones to these and control volume in the Element's accompanying Element Control software on your computer (or iPad or iPhone). While this all works fine, when volume is too loud, it sure is nice to have a physical knob you can grab quickly to turn things down! That's why I bought this ART device. I have owned other ART equipment. It is all well designed and built like a tank. The design of this unit attracted me because it is one of the only devices I have been able to find where you can feed multiple (up to 4) stereo signals into the unit and have control over each separate signal with an associated volume knob. The problem? The unit is a gain killer. As other reviewers have noted, you must feed a pretty hot signal into this unit because it is going to eviscerate the gain before it even gets to the unit's volume knobs. I had to set the signal coming out of the Element device to full-tilt boogie (wide open) to make my application work and as anybody who works in audio knows, you never want to max any volume setting/knob—it always produces signal-path noise in the form of hiss, etc. ART has a great design going in this unit (the option to pass four separate stereo signals directly through a volume knob); they simply need to make an active version that maintains/passes through the originating sources' signal levels and allows one to turn things up or down from there. A clarification on my star rating: If what you plug into this unit has a lot of gain, I would rate this unit five-star. If it does not—no stars—it simply isn't an appropriate tool. Average these at 3 stars.

I use it to combine signals from keyboards. Being stereo through TRS cables, they cannot be balanced signals, but I haven't had any hum or distortion, so not an issue. I've been told by a sound engineer that splitting a signal will greatly reduce the signal strength of each split signal, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. If you're wanting to send the same sound source down different pathways, you'll probably need an active mixer that boosts the signals.

Easy way to not only ADD a subwoofer to any type of speakers to your PC, but also added value of being able to control the volume of the subwoofer. Downside is you loose about 12db , i ended up sending this back and getting the HeadAMP4 by ART also, gives you 8 headphone amps, and works like a preamp for your monitor and sub, while still powering my headphones.Almost exactly the same, but instead of line in mixer you get 8 outputs with either 1/4 or 3.5mm. Totally recommend this also if its in your need. Great built. FYI My setup is presonus E5 and a Orbis SubMini.

Honestly things great and just works and does its job, but its quieter then I had imagined. You lose quite a bit of audio level to the point that I have an amp on the output from this thing and its still too quiet at times. For my purposes something powered is probably required but if you want just solid no fuss audio routing, this will do it.

honestamente es tirar el dinero a la basura en estos productos de mala calidad. baja mucho el volumen, baja la calidad del sonido, no tiene todas las caracteristicas que anuncia, ocupa espacio. al final no lo uso.

Ich habe den SplitMix bestellt, um die Stereosignale von drei elektronischen Klangerzeugern auf unkomplizierte Weise vor den Monitorlautsprechern zusammenzuführen. Das Gerät ist preiswert, aber dennoch top verarbeitet. Das Metallgehäuse ist schön schwer und kippelt nicht, die Potis laufen gleichmäßig und angenehm schwergängig, die Kabel sitzen stramm in den (Stereo-)Buchsen. Nebengeräusche oder Klangverluste sind aufgrund der passiven Schaltung nicht zu befürchten und auch nicht in Erscheinung getreten. Alles in allem also volle Punktzahl! Da ich die Splitter-Funktion (neudeutsch für "Verteiler") nicht benötige, hätte ich mir lieber zwei Mono-Buchsen pro Mixerkanal gewünscht. Gegebenenfalls muss man sich passende Kabel oder Adapter besorgen, was den günstigen Preis wieder relativiert. Leider ist der maximale Pegel eines der beteiligten Instrumente relativ niedrig, so dass der durch die passive Ausführung bedingte Lautstärkeverlust dann doch zu hoch ist und der Einsatz eines passiven Mixers bei mir keinen Sinn macht. Schade, denn das Produkt hat mich vollständig überzeugt.

Ottima qualità costruttiva, le manopole con movimento denso e preciso, l'ho usato come switch controllando ogni volume della singola uscita dedicata, ma funziona anche come mixer, qualità audio eccellente...il tutto senza alimentazione, ripeto ... un gioellino!

i previously had a laptop/pc/ipad/fire stick (through 2nd monitor) outputs all merged through a series of rca adapters. it worked, but the levels were all over the place. i looked at the £20-£30 mixer solutions, but many neg reviews around build quality and noise levels. found the splitmix4 bhy accident and whilst it was more than i expected to spend, it was worth it, used existing cables with some rca to 1/4" jack adapters, took two minutes to setup, and it's exactly what i wanted. no noise, no fuss. you need to set all your outputs to 100% then use the mixer to adjust. i've got mine going into some old bose powered pc speakers and the sound it great.
