In the Company of a Poet

Interesting read
Nasreen Munni Kabir interviews Gulzar and makes him talk about his journey into films and literature. Gulzar's candid, multi-faceted persona and the enviable wealth of his life experiences, both come through these conversations. Poor proof-reading (A complete mess-up of capitalization of letters throughout the book!) is an irritant in an otherwise interesting read!

Gulzar sahab! Nuff' said.
Gulzar sahab! Nuff' said. This conversational piece exceeds all my expectations. I was sceptical as to how a conversation with him would go in English (since I associate him with Hindustani & Urdu) and whether a book of merely 200 pages would do justice to such a luminous life. It does, and leaves you wanting more. Now that's always a good thing. Can't wait to devour more of his works and books on him.

THUMBS UP TO AMAZON AND SELLER, BUT BOOK WAS DISAPPOINTING
Well, Delivery was quick, book was in excellent condition but....Author of the book was way off the topic. People want to know about Gulzar Sahab, what Gulzar Sahab is from inside. What is his thought process, way of thinking. The book is like question and answers. But most of the questions asked to Gulzar Sahab were about his work experiences with other renowned personalities of bollywood. Sorry to say but focus was not on Gulzar Sahab in most of the book. Also book is written in very dry manner and hardly invokes any interest among readers.

His lyrics would always be fresh like dew-drops, never get old or weary on this ...
Gulzar is such a sweet-heart. Such a straight-forward and down-to-earth person and yet doesn’t come across as somebody who would be rude or harsh even while being straight-forward.His lyrics would always be fresh like dew-drops, never get old or weary on this (referring to myself) unassuming, benign and incognizant mindI already loved him for his various hues of work specially his songs and now I feel that I should go read every poem, song, story, play or translation that he has worked on. Wish I could learn the language that he always writes in. Would definitely try and get his books on poems and short stories that are in Hindi or English. Wish I could understand all that he writes Now my love for this amazing person has grown to a greater extent. And kudos to Nasreen Munni Kabir for getting Gulzar saab speak so much about his life and work. It was as if he was speaking directly to the readers

Gulzar's early life in Delhi and his initial days in Bombay as an assistant in his brother's spare parts shop come out with grea
A very personal account of conversations the author had with Gulzar-saab. Gulzar's early life in Delhi and his initial days in Bombay as an assistant in his brother's spare parts shop come out with great clarity and honesty. In fact, this honesty shows through in every page of the book. RD Burman is just mentioned in passing. I wish Gulzar had spoken in depth about his relation with RD, and how they went about creating magic! But I guess that would have digressed from the focus of this book, which is his poetry.A must-read for all fans of Gulzar the director and the poet.

Every word counts
Mindblowing. The life of Gulzar Saab opens up in his own words. Its pictorial, its visual, its entertaining and its a huge learning experience. A must have book for anyone who loves music, movies, literature and poetry.

If you love Gulzar, this will make you smile. A glimpse into the man which makes the poet.
Gulzar sa'ab to inspiration hain. One of my heroes. This book gave a very good insight into his life. If you wish to sit beside him one evening and just hear him talk, this book will be a good substitute. Gives an insight into the man first, then to some extent even the poet.

Nice read.
It not only focuses on Gulzar as a lyricist, but also as a screenplay writer, a poet, a director. The book is in a Q&A format which makes it more palatable. It begins with his background, his place of birth (Dina, now Pakistan) to Delhi and to Mumbai where he started to interact with other legendary bollywood personalities at PWA (Progressive Writers Assoc). It describes his association with Bimal Roy, Hemant Kumar to Vishal Bharadwaj and AR Rahman of today's generation. An excellent way to look at his life in about 200 pages!

A conversation which belongs to league of Classics
If you cannot meet Gulzar sahab reading this book is the next best thing one can do, after reading 10 pages itself one thinks that this book should never end

Not so much about his experiences with different actors for ...
Not so much about his experiences with different actors for his different films, I was expecting that one but the interview did not cover that.

Gulzar Saab is gift of God to us.
I don't know how our lives would have been shaped if there had been no poetry, music & literature.Gulzar Saab is all three elements personified in a single rather reclusive poet. His poetry is a charm. It unfolds gently like a morning gently removing misty blanket to a warm & splendid sunny rays.

Good conversation
Good casual read. One need to be aware of Gulzar saab 's work to enjoy this. Not an autobiography, but guves good insight about the person and poet .

As good as it gets
A fabulous book.Simple,real,honest,unpretentious.Felt like a real time conversation with me.Took me through the by-lanes of pre-partition India & the old world of films. Delivered really quick & in fantastic condition by amazon.Though I feel the price amazon keeps is a little on the higher side but no regrets.Would recommend it to all book lovers, especially the ones who want to know this man -GULZAR.
