Decent sound, small and portable, reasonable value
I got this so I could listen to tunes in my office and charge my ipod. The unit comes well packaged and includes firewire and usb cables to connect your ipod to your computer. When I purchased the unit it claimed to compatible with the nano, which it is, however it does not have an adapter insert specifically for the nano. The nano still fits in there, and it still works, but it's not a snug fit as if the adaptor was made for it. They may have added the nano adaptor by now.The unit is hinged and lays flat for travel, and sits upright when in use (as pictured), they also include a clear plastic cover that you can attach to protect the speakers during travel. Nice feature if you want to stuff it in your suite case and not damage the speakers. It accepts 4 double AA's so you can play it w/out plugging it in, but I haven't tried this feature since it sits in my office 100% of the time. The power cord has a nicely designed in-line transformer (with a green light), so it has a regular plug and doesn't take up any extra space on your surge protector. When the power is turned on there are two blue led-type lights at either side of the ipod that add a bit of styling, and perhaps might light the click-wheel at night. As you can see in the picture there are two small speakers in the towers on either side near the top, but the rest of the tower is somewhat empty (it does house the batteries in the bottom half). There is a larger driver for bass that sits behind the ipod. The sound out of this small system is decent, but not earth-shattering. In my opinion it's good for low to medium volume levels for a small bedroom or office. I think they wasted some space in the towers and could have perhaps include another set of speakers, or maybe larger oval shaped ones to give the unit fuller sound. If you're looking for something to fill a larger room you might want to look at something like the Logitech mm50 (I have a set of these and the sound is quite good - very full - on par w/ the expensive Bose SoundDock).I do have one complaint - the unit has a power switch on the front that turns it on, but it also has some sort of internal sensor that senses when the ipod is playing. When the unit senses that it is not playing it powers down (blue lights dim) and it makes an audible "pop" through the speakers. Conversely when it senses the unit is playing it powers up and again makes the "pop" sound. On some songs that have long pauses (about 15 seconds), and on others that have long transitions between songs the unit thinks it's time to power down. So it makes the "pop" every now and then which is very slightly annoying and sounds kind of cheap.Overall I'd say the unit is great for small rooms or people who need something that is small and easy to travel with. If you're looking for something that has really full sound and better quality I'd recommend something like the Logitech mm50 which offers great sound, an internal rechargeable battery and a remote.

Perfect iPod travel speakers
I previously purchased some portable speakers for my iPod from RadioShack but returned them a day later because the sound quality was horrendous and there was very little volume. I decided to give it another try and purchased these little wonders from Logic3. They're fantastic! The volume can be turned up high enough to fill a room with very little distortion and their size is perfect for traveling. Here are some things to keep in mind if you are planning to purchase these speakers:1. No portable speakers can give you the kind of sound range and quality you can get from a high quality stereo system, but these come as close as can be expected from portable speakers. The tiny price is a bonus!2. The ac adaptor is pretty big. It's a great to use at home to charge your iPod while listening to tunes, but it's too big to be travel-friendy. My plan is to fully charge my iPod before trips and bring some extra AA batteries for the Logic3.3. Be careful of the speakers...they are not protected in any way by the case unless you put the plastic cover on.4. When you put your iPod in the dock, you have to push harder than you would think for it to snap into place. Just be careful to have the correct adaptor on the Logic3 for your type of iPod and make sure it is lined up properly before trying to put it into the dock.

No complaints, except...
The Logic3 i-station produces excellent quality sound in a compact product at a fairly high volume. It is fully adequate to provide music for a large room (such as a living room). I've also played various genres of music without any noticeable problems, from new age to jazz to heavy metal. The station folds up easily for storage and transportation, and comes with a plastic sheath that slips over the front to provide more than adequate protection for the normally exposed speakers.I am fully satisfied with this product, and the sound quality remains strong and crisp for quite some time on battery power (four AA batteries). I still haven't run down the first batch of batteries, and I've been using the system fairly regularly - on battery power alone - for about a month now!The only minor drawback is that it didn't come with an adaptor for the iPod nano, and the adaptor that comes with the nano doesn't fit this unit. A visit to the Logic3 website, however, indicates that free nano adaptors are available for this product. I've mailed away for it (to the UK, though), and hopefully will receive it soon. Without the adaptor, you have to be veeeeeeery careful using the nano on it.

The fattest sounding portable iPod 4 x AA battery speaker system
I put the iStation and InMotion to a head-to-head test. The InMotion did have a clearer high-end. But the iStation had a much fatter sound, and could play louder without distortion than the InMotion. The InMotion has this "MaxBass" technology which is supposed to create low frequencies out of high ones. It did not match the iStation's real woofer (it's not a subwoofer as labeled --- but consumers these days never hear of just a woofer). So, in toto, I prefer the fatter sound of the iStation. Listening to it alone, the high end sounds very good. So it took an actual comparison to realize that greater clarity is possible. The only real design defect I find in the iStation is that the power button can get pressed on when the iStation is packed in a backpack or case, draining the battery. The iStation has USB and Firewire ports for the iPod AND cables! These alone are worth a good chunk of the sales price. I don't know why Apple doesn't list it with their iPod accessories, but I'm glad I found it on Amazon. For the best sound you can take with you backpacking, the iStation is it.
