Correct bait strategy needed and then they work!
So after discovering we had mouse, we ordered these after researching options. We set four traps in our kitchen and pantry and loaded the little bait cups with peanut butter and then waited. We were confident that we had at least one very active mouse in that area. After leaving our house for an hour, we expected to come back and find something in a trap or two, however we came home and found nothing caught. Given their locations, we couldn't really see the traps without going to the smaller areas we'd laid them. After several hours and it is now late evening, we were getting very impatient and went to check on them again. As I was the one that filled the cups, I noticed on close inspection that there was less in the cup than I remember loading up, and then to our dismay and after checking the other three traps, we could clearly see that the mouse had managed to get at the bait and eat most of it out of the cup without setting the trap off! We reloaded the cups and set again. The next morning, the traps were still intact. We couldn't get over how the mouse had managed to get at the peanut butter without setting it off, as my husband could easily set off the trap with the slightest pressure from a toothpick.Lunchtime and I baked some banana and peanut butter muffins. The house smelled amazing and as my husband and I stood in our kitchen waiting for them to be done baking, we spied a tiny mouse poking his head out from under the water heater closet. We stood dead still and watched in disbelief as he crawled out further and then stood on the front of the trap and calmly ate the peanut butter in front of us. After about 10 seconds, my husband stomped heavily on the kitchen floor, hoping the vibration would set it off, but it just scared Mr Mouse back under the closet door.We decided that our bait strategy was simply not good enough and that loading the little bait cups up with peanut butter was not the way to go. Mr Mouse was tiny but he was able to lean over the get at the peanut butter that was poking out the top and sides of the bait cups, but was never able to completely clean out the cup without stepping onto the trap. We decided to clean the traps and reset, this time with a TINY price of cheese in the bottom of each cup. If Mr Mouse wanted the cheese, he was going to have to climb onto the trap to stick his nose down into the cup.Within an hour, Mr Mouse was cleanly caught. Our conclusion is that these traps work well and as intended, but you can't make it too easy for the rodents to reach the bait without stepping on the trap. Whatever you put in the cup should not reach the top of the cup and should be down at the bottom. For this purpose, the cheese was easier to get down there than peanut butter, which gets caught on the sides easily. We had no problems setting the traps and found that part easy. They were also very sensitive. Easy to clean.

BREAKS AFTER FIRST SNAP.....POS
I really had high hopes for these traps. At first everything seemed to work. Even caught a couple mice. Missed a couple as well. Don't know how but they got the peanut butter without getting caught when it did snap.Problem is when they snap, they do snap hard which of course they should. However that hard snap breaks a really thin piece of the plastic holding the lock, so you can never set the trap again. (See picture)I purchased six of them and within a week I am unable to use three and tossed them. Unfortunately when they snap down on Mr Mouse's head...or just get triggered by the mice without catching them, which happens as well, they will be useless because that little ""hook bar"" piece (the weakest and thinnest point) will break as they all have so far. This failure should have been caught with even minimal quality control.

Quick, clean kills ~90% of the time
I would rate these traps a 4+ or a 5- if it were possible. I bought a 6 pack and each trap has caught at least one mouse when baited with peanut butter. I hate mice in my home/workplace/etc., but I don't want to be unnecessarily cruel, so having a trap that delivers a quick, clean kill is important. About 90% of the time, these traps work great. So far, there have been 2 times when the mouse was trapped and wounded but still alive, suffering, and unlikely to die quickly so I've had to figure out alternate methods of extermination (ick). Both times the mouse in question seemed considerably smaller than the ones that were killed in one *SNAP*. One other time we heard the snap and a few seconds of scrabbling, but the end came pretty quickly. Thankfully, I have yet to encounter any spilled blood or guts. I would buy these traps again-they are an economical option and work better than the cheap wooden ones. The pictures others have posted fit with my experiences with the product, so I didn't feel the need to post any more examples.I found these pros/cons outlined by other reviewers to be quite accurate:Pros: Easy to tell when they are triggered (yellow bar will be down), plastic material isn't flimsy, we've caught quite a few mice. Easy to release the dead body for disposal-squeeze plain silver bar toward back of trap to release the yellow bar and the mouse drops right out. Haven't had to touch any dead bodies.Cons: The first time the traps are set, it's easy and they aren't accidentally triggered when setting them down. After a few kills, the catch doesn't seem to work as well and it is easier to accidentally set them off if you're not gentle enough when placing them.

Easy to set, doesn't self-destruct. Catches the mouse.
A funny thing to review 'a better mousetrap' but it is: better than the wooden fall-apart crap Lowe's sells. The handy extra bar lets you set the trap without endangering your fingers, and has two sensitivity adjustments. After lots of crappy traps, repellent, 'humane' traps that aren't, etc. these guys did the trick. Who'da thunk it was so difficult to catch a mouse?

Easy to use, very effective.
Love these mouse traps. They are easy to set up, bait & use. They are a LOT better than the standard wooden traps, easier to bait and set. We had mouse problems for over a week. First tried the poison pellets (bought on Amazon) but they didn't work, I think they just fed the mice without killing them.Decided to give these traps a try, and I'm glad we did. Placed one, baited with a little bit of peanut butter, between our stove & fridge, and within just a few minutes, caught the first mouse. Disposed of it, reset the trap and placed it back in the same spot, and within 5 minutes, caught the second mouse. That was on Wednesday, so far, have not seen any other mice, but are leaving the traps out for a week or two to be safe. They are easy to clean and completely reusable. I would highly recommend these, they work great.
