Crime and Punishment

Three years ago, I taught the novel for the first time in thirty years and, by the last of the eight 90 minutes sessions we devoted to it, I and most of the class (of retired people) felt it was the best novel we had ever read. Yes, , THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, DEMONS, THE IDIOT might be bigger and more ambitions but this novel is perfect, while there are flaws in the other great, Dostoevsky novels. CRIME AND PUNISHMENT is, simply stated, composed of one great scene after another, and steadily deepens and intensifies. A marvel. Oh yes, the translation--always the case for for Pevear and Volokhonsky== greatly contributes to the novel's precision and power.

This book is more proof that, while times change, people don't. Advances in Technologies have changed our life in some ways, but the human brain is the same as it was in the middle 1800s. This book is fascinating and very deep in areas. I enjoyed it and am anxious to hear from others that have read this awesome book. It's probably not right for everyone, but that's understandable. The author's own story is a trial of life and probably had a lot to do with his writings.

A masterpiece! Great challenge for beginners and great for all the book worms out there. Still enjoying.

The book came exactly as advertised! I loved the texture of the cover and the book had a good “new book smell” if you know what I mean ;) Only complaint would be that the book can be uncomfortable to hold with one hand (small hands) due to its thickness, but it’s not a major issue for me.

I have not finished reading this version yet, but I believe it is the same as the translation I read on kindle. I bought two copies different translations for my library, thus far this translation is all I hoped. My first time I read Crime and Punishment I was so captivated I practically did nothing else while I read it. An amazing look into relativism and the nihilism that is than inevitable, I felt there was an ultimate redemption and found that heartening. A few other people I have spoken to about this book disagree about the redemption. Loved it.

I bought this for two reasons: 1. So (Scream Queen) Danielle Harris could sign the book with a quote from her film "Fatal Call" (in which this book is referenced by her). 2. It also had a pretty cool cover! It's a Russian classic, so it's got a tragic ending. I recommend it.

I see now why this book is a classic, I highly recommend it you won’t be disappointed with Dostoevsky’s take on the world and how it is timeless in it lesson even especially for the modern times we live in.

I used this book for my AP LIT assignment & it provided helpful/informative notes in the back that made understanding the book much easier & interesting! I recommend this copy it provided a lot more great info & it came in GREAT condition. Plot was amazing and story line is great & fascinating.

Good quality. The only issue I have is that the printing sometimes leave blank spots in words.

I love the cover art and I was looking for a P&V translation so it’s the best of both worlds. The lamination on the edges of the cover is curling up ever so slightly through use. I think it gives it a lovely used look. Those who prefer their books to look mint might want to treat it with extra care.
