Barmah Foldaway Squashy Kangaroo Hat, Crackle Brown (1018)

Well I purchased this after a week in the lake district with no form of hat to stop the sun from beating down on my blistering shoulders (yes it was actually sunny there for once!) and having seen a few of the gents around there with a nice looking leather hat I decided to have a look for one on line when i got home. There isn't a lot of price difference from retailer to retailer, however I found this particular garment the cheapest here at Amazon. It arrived in no time at all. it came in a roomy box filled with big bubble wrap, along with the classic bag that they provide. Which is very good quality, i have not used it and i don't think i will to be perfectly honest as when i'm going anywhere I tend to wear it on the way as it gets me in the outdoorzy mood...non the less a nice quality bag. I knew I had a rather large head so i got the XL and it fits perfectly, not too tight and just sits right. Be careful when you get yours because if you are as eager as i was to wear it they you may have a hat that's too tight for you and end up with a headache. So before you take the label off and go into the woods and start chopping at trees with your machete just make sure its the one for you. The general feel of the hat is very luxurious and leatheree? :£ and the color is a nice aged (but not too much) browny gray color and has a nice textured appearance. I wore this through out my holiday in Spain. It actually keeps you surprisingly cool, you wouldn't think it would as its brown and made of kangaroo leather, however it keeps the sun off you and with the brass vent holes (which are very nice) that are in the top of the hat provide the right amount of ventilation. Over all i would highly recommend this hat to anybody that fancy's themselves as a bit of a Ray Mears type of bloke with a essence of Indianna Jones. On a more serious note, this hat ticks all the boxes for me and feels like it will last a life time. I would urge you to just spend that little more and get yourself this or any of the barmah range as i'm sure they are just as good!!

I was fortunate enough to buy one whilst in Melbourne for the Dec/Jan sunshine which if you've been in Oz at that time of year then you'll know how sunny and hot it gets. I've got a really big head so finding hats that fit is a problem but not with Barmah. Absolutely brilliant fit, the band sticks out far enough to provide a great sun screen so even the tip of my nose is under cover. The sweat band works well and does as intended. The shape of the hat is partially due to design and also due to the way it folds into its cloth bag. The shape of the brim is also useful for channeling rain (yes we had some and even Uluru was severely flooded!). The brim design also lends itself well for holding a fly/mozzie net away from the face. Now I'm back in the UK I find its my go to hat when walking outdoors on the moors and the only thing I've done to it is to treat it with some leather conditioner to keep it water resistant and I don't leave it in its carry bag or on the dashboard in full sun. Finally, I noticed one other comment made about it getting wet and becoming larger. I was always under the impression that damp/wet leather band that dries on the head will shrink and a bit of headache can ensue. If Barmah know if this is inaccurate then I stand to be corrected. Overall it's a great hat that's smart enough for most situations and very practical.

I really like this hat, however it was too small and I had to change it. I was very careful with the sizing chart on Amazon before ordering it so I was surprised when it didn't fit. When I went to the company's own website I found that their size chart differed from the one on Amazon, which I think is pretty poor and it cost me to return it and get a replacement sent out. My advice would be to check the sizing charts on the website of the company you are actually getting the hat from before you order. The hat itself is very good and although I've only had it a few weeks I think it will last well and keep the sun and rain off.

This is my second Barmah hat, quality construction, perfect fit and great in the Scottish wind.

Love this hat loads!!! Fits perfect and a great Aussie quality. Worth buying the treatment too to keep it supple. Keeps the sun off and looks pretty cool. Folds up for easy travels. Love them and considering another slightly different one this year to give me a choice!!!

I've had hats in this style for decades but this is the best one I've ever had. Was exactly the style and colour in the picture when delivered, although mine was missing the carry-bag I know they usually come with [I already had the lightweight summer style Barmah]. Followed the advice to buy on the generous side of the size and hat fits perfectly - I would suggest that if anyone follows this advice (choose the correct size for your measurement or the one higher if you 'just fit' in the extremes of one of the size brackets) then you can always make it fit tighter with a size shrinker; a hat even a little too tight becomes unwearable over time. Love the kangaroo leather - so light! Totally waterproof so far (can see the rain beading on the hat surface) but I will still treat it when I get around to it. Really like the vintage look of this style; if you want an immaculate new looking hat you should choose another finish. The two tone band looks good in real life - I was initially nervous after seeing the pictures. If you can afford it get this one (or at least another Barmah).

The hat is fantastic, does everything you expect. The only problem is that during high winds it can fly quite well. I purchased the official Barmah chinstrap for £8, only then did i realise that the hat has no leather lugs to attach it too.

Schnell und gut verpackt geliefert. Passt, sieht gut aus und dient als Ersatz für meinen ersten Hut, den ich nach 14 Jahren leider verloren habe.... Lässt sich problemlos falten und springt beim auspacken wieder in den Ursprungszustand. Wasserdicht, gerade für Hörgeräteträger sinnvoll... Klare Kaufempfehlung MfG
