Second to Nun, Chuck!
The oddly named Wii Nunchuk is an extention controller that plugs into the Wii remote, the main controller for Wii games. Many games can be played perfectly well without the Nunchuk, but for others, this controller is essential, and adds an extra dimension to gameplay. When you buy the Wii, you are supplied with one remote and one Nunchuk. Therefore, if two people want to play the games, they need at least another remote, but if the game requires a Nunchuk, they will need to buy one of those too, as they are not sold together with the remotes (very clever, Nintendo!).The product itself is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand comfortably, and has a thumb operated joysick on the top and two buttons at the front, where you place your index and middle fingers respectively. Your other two fingers curl underneath the curved underside of the Nunchuk in a "trigger" position. The Nunchuk is very lightweight and comfortable to hold in the hand. There is a wire running from the bottom of the Nunchuk which has a connector at the end that slots into the bottom of the Wii remote. The wire can be a bit awkward and get in your way during some games, although it is possible to get wireless Nunchuks. The Nunchuk itself does not need any batteries, as it is powered by the Wii remote, which takes two AA batteries. The Nunchuk can be used in either hand during gameplay, though if you are right handed, you would usually hold the Nunchuk in your left hand. The Nunchuk is used in many different ways in gaming on the Wii. One of the main games that we play on our Wii is Donkey Kong Jet Race, which is a very simple kids racing game in which you propel yourself along by frantically "drumming" the remote and Nunchuk alternately. As we play this game so often, we have 3 remotes and 3 Nunchuks so that we can race each other, as there is no way to play the game without the Nunchuk attatchment. In some games, the Nunchuk is optional, such as Mario and Sonic at the Olympic (and winter) games. The events, such as running can be played by waving the remote up and down, but if you attatch the Nunchuk you get a more realistic running action which involves waving the two controllers alternately. In the Fifa football games, you can also play with or without the attatchment, though the Nunchuk adds a lot to the gameplay by enabling you to control your players more effectively. In many shooting games, you can move around using the joystick on the Nunchuk and use the remote as a gun, or use the two controllers like boxing gloves in games like Wii fit and Wii sports. We tend to use our Nunchuk controllers quite a lot when we play on the Wii, but have found the odd problem, such as getting tangled up in the wires! Another problem is if you start a game with the analog stick not in the central neutral position. This can cause the controls to be unresponsive when you start the game. We have had our controllers for nearly two years now, and they are showing little sign of wear and tear, apart from one of them, which can be unreliable at times. I have put a sticker on it to distinguish it from my two good Nunchuks. In conclusion, if you want to get the most out of the Wii, the Nunchuk is pretty essential, as sooner or later you are going to encounter a game which requires it to be connected. It is a shame that Nintendo do not sell the remotes and Nunchuks together in packs, as you really need to buy both together to get the best gaming experience. The one that comes included with the Wii is white, but you can buy "skins" in a variety of designs and colours to personalise your nunchuk to your own taste.

Fantastic!
the new Wii controller set up is fantastic! I can honestly say its probably one of the best I've ever used and i'm a serious gamer! The interaction with new games is astounding..i can only say..more please! To address the last reviewers posts..I find myself rather confused by what your trying to say! I accept that you are disabled and I understand your frustration. I'm pretty sure that nintendo where aiming this at the majority market. thats not to say if you have a disability the Wii and controlers are off limits..Its just if you suffer from Muscular Dystrophy...then the games, rather than the controllers are where your problem lies! Some of the games require SERIOUS movement at high speeds.I ache from simulated boxing fights and what not...I havnt had this much excerise in years!now..Like the last reviewer...If you dont fancy moving around much or cant..then there are 2, and only 2 alternatives avalible to you!1) buy a classic controller for your Wii. this works with a large range of games..though not all so make sure you check the title supports it first (all Wiiconnect24 games will..infact a classic contoler is must for that)2) Dont buy a Wii. its that simple. you need space to play the Wii in and you need to move lots for a lot of title..if its not your cup of tea..STAY AWAY!

Not essential but adds to the gaming experience.
I bought another wii controller, and so many of the games i have require a nunchuk as well. I decided that the extra cost of buying a Nintendo branded controller was better than the risk of it not working properly and it being poor quality as other people have mentioned on unbranded nunchuks. The nunchuk isn't an essential piece of kit for the wii, but it helps having a nunchuk for every wii controller you have so that when you are playing with more than one person, you don't end up with family arguements if the nunchuk is needed for an activity! The nunchuk itself requires no set-up, is of sturdy plastic, and well manufactured. Worth the money for extra gaming oppurtunties.

Essential for the Wii!
Just to clear up, this is an official Nintendo Nun-chuck add-on for the Wiimote. It comes with all the official packaging and as you'd expect, works seamlessly. Although this isn't necessary for all games, I would definitely recommend buying it anyway. Some of the better games (e.g. Zelda series) require the nun-chuck and you don't want to be missing out on those. It's not particularly complex, as you can see in the picture. It's comprised of an analog stick, often used for basic motion, two buttons, and finally a built-in 'three-axis motion sensor' similar to the one in your Wiimote. It plugs in directly to your Wiimote and uses that to function, so no extra batteries or anything.Overall definitely a must have if you're going to play some of the bigger Wii titles.

Genuine nintendo item??????
Received the nunchuk today as replacement for one that was stolen. The advert for this item implies by both the wording and the photos that this is a genuine nintendo nunchuk. However when I opened the jiffy bag the nunchuk cable was 'screwed up' in a clear plastic bag with the actual nunchuk in a blue plastic bag. No box, as shown in the photo's, no other packaging and no instruction/warranty sheets. Have yet to test it as I am still awaiting a replacement wii for the one that was stolen, hopefully it will be a bit better packaged?!Wait out for further installments!UPDATE: Have now had the chance to use this item and as suspected this is not up to scratch, very unresponsive and frustrating to use.

Great quality
Bought two of these as they were cheap and the official controllers. Other than the packaging, they were in perfect condition and worked great. Highly recommend.

OK
I avoid 'taken out of original package' products on purpose. This seller did not make it clear that they did this. When it arrived, it had a brown smudge on one side of the Nintindo Wii Nunchuck, & a black smudge on the other side. I managed to clean the brown smudge off with a damp cloth, but the black smudge took a Mr. Clean Magic Sponge to get it off. I prefer stuff in its original, UNopened box. I would have ordered this from someone else if I had known this was not the case on this order. It IS a Nintendo Wii Nunchuck with the Nintendo logo at the bottom of the plug. I am waiting for my son to test it, but it looks & feels ok up to this point. Price is not everything to us.The packaging & shipping were excellent though. Bubble wrapped very well, & got here very fast. Just without the dirt/smudges would have been better.UPDATE: My son has been using this & it is working just fine. No problems.
