Metaphor: ReFantazio Launch Edition - PlayStation 5

For me, this excels in every category for an RPG and became one of my favorite games I’ve ever played.The combat is turn based; a ton of fun for those who love strategy, with many ways to play without ever needing to look up builds. Just experiment and do what’s fun for you and fits your tactics and expand as you gain abilities. Most RPGs I’ve played I usually amass items and ignore various abilities as “unnecessary” or “gimmicky”, where here I felt I used way more items in and out of combat and it had me trying and using a lot more abilities/combinations between characters, which kept it fun and interesting in finding better ways beat enemies.Music is excellent, memorable and fits the story so well. Story is excellent and feels overall well paced with combat. The main story has many emotional moments with twists and turns, while also giving you great side characters with their own back story. You fall in love with the characters and the creators do a great job making you feel for them and the overall story. All conversations are text based with great voice acting on all main story dialogue. Some dialogue is only text based in some side quest and any minor dialogue, and they did this well imo.Great art style for everything, wish they did more anime cut scenes, but doesn’t take away from the gameplay/story.

Extremely good storytelling and a fun turn based combat system. There is a lot of content here if you want a nice long rpg to play.

Great game for those who are fans of turn based RPGS. If you are a Persona fan you will enjoy this title and it still features the friendship and developing stats mechanic. There is no dating or romance mechanic which isn't a loss at all because the story doesn't need it. Combat is a fun mix of action and turn based combat where you can damage the enemy to cause a stun effect before turn based combat begins. Just like other SMT/Persona games you have weaknesses due to weapon types/magic. The soundtrack is great though not on the level of Persona 5 or Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The Japanese and American voice acting is superb so you will learn to love the characters no matter the language. Buy this game if you are looking for a fun new IP with a great class system and a combat system that is easy to learn.

This game so far has completely surpassed ALL of my expectations! I avoided spoilers for this game like the plague when it was announced, so this is only my opinion on the first 4 hours of the game; take it with a grain of salt, if you will (pun intended.) The visuals alone and the SOUNDTRACK, has me overwhelmed in the best way possible. The character designs do not miss, the battle music is a banger (the chanting in it is everything honestly), and the voice acting thus far is quality itself. I usually go for Japanese audio/Eng subtitles on most games, but I was curious about how the English audio would sound on this one (like Persona 5 Royal and some other Atlus games.) I ended up keeping my settings on the English audio in the end, because I really love all the different accents! The plot is also worth noting, as there is a LOT of world-building. I also wouldn't worry about getting lost with all of the terminology in the game (or even about a certain character's history as more are introduced) because there is a glossary to keep you updated on all of it. All in all, so far I would 150% recommend this game to anyone who is a Persona/SMT lover, or any rpg lover in general. I will update my review once I finish the game though!

Great game, I enjoyed it

After seeing the reveal almost 2 years ago and keeping up with a lot of the trailers I can say this game does not disappoint in the slightest. I am a huge fan of developer Atlus' games, with Persona 5 Royal being my favorite game of all time, so I was going in with high expectations and somehow this game managed to surpass all of them in virtually every single aspect. The visuals and art are unmatched, the gameplay is fun and stylish and the story is unlike no others. It is a worthy purchase filled to the brim with content and a metanarrative that is sure to stick with you for life. Metaphor has one of the most poetic and profound messages in all of gaming, and it is not afraid to tackle themes like racism and inequality , and it does so in very smart ways. It has a message rooted within the ideals of a just society, and it is a must play for any JRPG fan, or RPG fan in general.Do not miss out on this game.

Feels very persona-like, obviously, which is very welcome but at the same time Re:fantazio has been a breath of fresh air for the JRPG genre. It's wonderful for cozy gamers who delight in a good story and immersive world, but also offers somewhat of a challenge for hardcore gamers (though this is debatable).Pros- Delightful graphics and views really capture the idea of a whimsical fantasy- Combat system is fun and fluid- Character designs and voice actors are back to back incredible- Captivating storytelling that draws you in to find out more- Countless dungeons and lots of interesting NPC's to talk to- Enjoyable Social linksCons- Generic fighter archetypes (Warrior, thief, merchant, etc) with not much changes to their designs as you level up- The origin of the conflict is not clear and you simply have to accept it as it is- Sometimes the game feels too easy even on the harder difficulty- Side quests give you a lot to do but as you actually work on completing enough of them, they all start to blend in with each otherOverall really solid game and ideal for a cozy gamer that wants a storybook game. Can definitely compete with Persona as one of my favorite RPG's and I'm very excited hearing about the possible sequel entry.

Been wanting to try an Atlus RPG for a while and figured now was as good a time as any. My biggest concern going in was the time management mechanic seen previously in the Persona series, but so far it hasn't been a problem. I usually tackle the core objectives early and I'm left with plenty of spare time to develop character bonds and wrap up side quests until the next objective is given. One early recommendation is to escape/retry enemy encounters if the enemies land the first hit as even on the easy difficulty it will leave you on the back foot for the rest of that encounter. To give a comparison, the combat is similar to the job system from final fantasy 5 so the overall challenge is more dependent on finding which classes/moves are most effective in a given area zone/dungeon. Don't want to spoil too much so I'll just say that its a fun time with beautiful visuals, a great story, and a surprisingly flexible battle system. Would recommend.

Good RPG very nice story & gameplay

Está increíble, hace mucho que no me divertía tanto con un RPG hecho y derecho. Debes saber que es larguísimo y lento en su historia. Es como ver un anime de fantasía de esos de 1,000 capítulos. Sistema de combate perfecto. Música perfecta.

Similar game play to the Persona and SMT series in a new setting. Good story and fun to play.

This is one of the best game you could get among games that released in 2024. No Atlus and their hit series Persona fans should miss out on this.Great music, story, and gameplay. Only negative thing I could think of is somewhat meh graphic compared to other current gen games, as it uses their own graphic engine from Catherine, but that does not mean it is ugly to look at.I strongly suggest you to try this game if you have not yet.
