A good textbook but not a one-stop shop.
I am an Electrical Engineering Student with an interest in electric race cars. While my knowledge of how the powertrain of a vehicle operates was good, subjects like chassis design, suspension design, load considerations and the kinds of analysis needed to design a race car were lacking. This book is a good introduction with some very useful and in depth insight into how to begin to go about building a race car given the specification of the formula you are building it for. The examples it gives are good at illustrating the points being made. As I have a limited background in mechanics it seemed like some of the equations and relationships used appeared from thin-air without qualifying where they came from or appending a brief derivation which, I feel, is important to fully understanding the underlying physics of what is going on. While this book is a good start, further reading is required to be able to competently design many aspects of a race car. For instance while my understanding of how pushrod suspension works is now quite good, I would still struggle to come up with a basic design of my own. Being able to analyse a system and being able to design it are 2 different skills it seems. Overall this was a very interesting and worthwhile read and reference but this is by no means to Race Car Engineering what 'The Art of Electronics' (aka 'The Bible') is to Electronic Engineering.

Great read to understand a racecar from an engineering standpoint, just finished my 2nd year of mechanical engineering and I could understand this book quite well. Would recommend to anyone interested in motorsport and engineering.

Le race car design est l’un des meilleurs livre pour commencer à comprendre le domaine du sport auto. Idéal pour commencer en formula student par exemple, Je recommande !

This is the best content available on paper on designing a Race Car. Its written like a narrative. You will be introduced to a lot of concepts which you can understand with a high school level knowledge in Physics, Math. Must have for the booming formula student community especially for beginner teams who don't have alumni to pass on their knowledge.
