Hartleys Aluminium Office Chair Base and Castor Wheels

This was bought to replace the original base on my computer chair. It consisted of a box section steel frame inside a black plastic housing. One of the steel collars for the wheel stems had broken away, leaving the wheel sitting a bit wonky. I could have just welded it back in place, but fancied a change.The main difference between this and the old one is the noise generated when moving, especially when not sitting on it. This is on laminated flooring. It is much noisier than the old base. I put the noise down to the loose fit of the castor pins in the alloy. The castors fit in positively, but it is the spring clips that hold them in place (as with any computer/office chair), and the space between the pins and alloy allows movement and rattle. The box section steel, thick steel collars and plastic housing on the old base obviously had much better sound dampening properties. I may end up trying shrink wrap sleeving or grease on the top section of the castor pins to take up some of the free play/dampen sound. Quiet enough when sitting in the chair and moving.Noise aside, I still would not go back to the old base. The base looks fantastic.The alloy will mark fairly easily with footwear. I have noticed quite a bit of light surface scratches in the short time I have used it. I have a tendency to rest my feet on the spokes. It will dull over time as it is a bare metal, but will be able to be brought back to a mirror finish with some metal polish.The castors that came with it work well and glide smoothly. The wife liked them that much, she pinched them for her beauty stool! Strangely enough, swapping the High Density Rubber Wheel Wall castors that came with the base for the standard wheels that came with the wife's beauty stool has quietened my base a bit.I did briefly try a set of Rollerblade style PU wheels in the base, but did not like them at all. The chair would suddenly stop when gliding across the floor, as if suddenly hitting a brake, and I felt it would end up stressing the alloy sockets in the base to the point they could fail/snap prematurely due to the force exerted.It has been over a year now since I replaced the gas lift, supplied by Hartleys, and it has never needed raised once from the setting I originally chose. This gave me the confidence to buy this base from the same source. Their customer service is excellent too.

Bought this as the plastic base on my gaming chair exploded one day, definitely not because I have put on a ton of weight during the pandemic, and I thought it would be better to spend a few quid to replace the base rather than hundreds to just get a completely new chair as the rest of the chair was still in great condition.It is nice and sturdy and definitely and upgrade on the original base the chair came with. Fitted no problem. What i will say is the order came without the casters but this issue was very quickly resolved without any hassles.I suggest doing what i did and buying this instead of a new chair if you dont really need to.

I have a JL Comfurni "Gaming chair" I use as my main office chair when working from home. The chunky plastic base gave way to the lockdown pounds and I needed an inexpensive way to get back on to a comfy chair considering this is now where I spend most of my life.The item arrived well packaged and in good time, Fitting was as easy as turning the chair upside down and sliding the new base on to the gas lift stem (where the old base had split entirely in two and fell off...), then popping the castors in and setting the whole thing upright. Hopefully this stays the course until some other part of this cheap chair gives way and I have to get something more sensible without a footrest and full recline options...

Lightweight and easy to assemble.Snapped off and broke at the wheel after 2 months of use.

As mentioned by several others, this thing is not fit for purpose. Especially not if you're of a husky stature.I bought it in June, it broke on Dec 30th. Same as many other reports, two legs just sheared off near the castors and left dangerous metal spikes. I was barefoot at the time it's a miracle I didn't end up with a slashed achilles or something. It seems to me that the metal frame cannot handle the twisting torsion applied on the castors when the chair is sat upon, or pulled when you might "scoot" across the floor without getting fully off the chair. I spotted a couple of legs were bending and a day later the two were off, with the other having small tears in the metal.I'll admit I AM a husky gentleman and I do tear through cheap office chairs at a rate of about two a year but I got this thinking it would solve the problem of castor sockets breaking and the things falling out constantly or just bending under coming away making the chair unusable. I did not expect this. Bought this for my 13 year old son as its metal I thought it would last, how wrong am I. Not only did two of the arms snap but unfortunately I'm writing this sat at a&e as one of the arms has cut my sons foot.

2 months in and two of the wheels have just split at the axle. These wheels are superb and have lasted 3 years now.

These were a replacement for the broken plastic ones, was easily fitted and very sturdy,much better than the original
