Fodor's Bermuda (Travel Guide)

This was a great guide, and I'm very glad I purchased it before my first time to Bermuda. Here's the breakdown:Activities: The guide presents a grand array of activities and sights, but don't be deceived: while there's plenty to do, Bermuda is, at its heart, a beach vacation. Most of what you're going to do is enjoy some truly stunning beaches and relax to your heart's content. If you're thinking a tour of St. George will be a treasure of historic adventure, you might be a little let down. This goes for the other sightseeing areas, too. You go to Bermuda to enjoy incredible snorkeling, food, and romantic evenings. If you're jazzed about the history scene, choose Washington, DC, Rome, or something similar instead (you get the idea). But with that understanding, Fodor's gives you the lowdown on everything you might be interested in. (Tip: the aquarium may be bypassed without great regret, unless you're a real aquarium aficionado. It was ok, but I wouldn't do it again.)The maps: The maps are great, but they're organized a little differently that you might expect. Bermuda is organized by separate parishes (like cities, in the US), and the guide follows that format. If you look at the parish you're interested in, you'll find a detailed map of that area, with some of the standout features. So if you're expecting one single map that's attached in the back or middle (like some guides), you might be confused or disappointed. But dig a little deeper, and you have everything you need at your fingertips.Accuracy: My experience closely matched the expectations set by the guide. St. George and the Royal Naval Dockyard were interesting and enjoyable (grab a rum cake at the Dockyard if you go!), but don't expect that you'll spend hours being inundated with great historical sights and a shopper's paradise. No, the real magic is at the beaches and restaurants. And the recommendations in the guide served us very well.Recap: I loved the guide. It gave a great primer on the island and its activities, and it set reasonable expectations for the different activities, restaurants, and sights.

Bermuda offers a warm slice of Britain just a couple of hours by air from the U.S. East Coast. This updated Fodor's travel guide has plenty of information to plan a trip. Just a heads up: Bermuda is small, expensive, and sometimes crowded. Planning ahead is a good way to have a great vacation.The book opens with an introduction to Bermuda and its geographic layout. Following are sections on where to eat, where to stay, and what to do while there. There is some practical information on how to get around an island where outsiders may not rent a car, and may not want to rent a scooter. Of note, the guide has a terrifically readable section on cruise lines. Bermuda is known for its golf, scuba-diving, and some high end shopping. There is lots of surviving above ground history, especially the former British Navy Dockyard on the west end of the island, and a number of interesting museums. And it has a different flavor than its counterpart destinations in the Caribbean. The guide and Bermuda itself are highly recommended.

This was purchased as a gift for my son who was planning his first cruise to Bermuda. It was a fun and informative guide for a first-timer heading to the island. Needless to say, the section on cruises was a highlight. He was looking for the perfect beach and the highlights for their two days on the island. I think the Fodor's guide was great for his purposes! It was nice to see it on his coffee table and being read.

I have really enjoyed using this book to plan our trip! It I loved the reviews of all the attractions, eateries, golf courses, and beaches. They have some great little nuggets on things like the Farmer's Market and Harbor Nights. The maps located in each section are sometimes a little hard to follow since some attractions may be marked on the map found on their respective pages while others may be marked on the map found in another area of the book. Otherwise, the reviews of each location gave us some great ideas on how to spend our week in Bermuda. I can't wait! Thanks Fodor's!

Very extensive research about Bermuda with a lot of great things and tips. Used this book a lot for planning our day's excursions outside our hotel. Along with our concierge this book really gave me some excellent advice on places and dining. I just wish I had read this book on the customs and dress codes before we packed. We didn't realize Bermuda was so formal.

Pretty well done - could have more specifics on fares and locations for Bermuda mass transit.They could have also provided more details about the costs and availibility of chairs & umbrellas at specific beaches. There is some info but it could be more comprehensive.In short it seems like an excellent guide to the island with a chapter on cruising, some helpfull photos and maps.

I can always depend on my Fodor’s travel book! Kept it by my side on my trip to Bermuda and helped my see the island so efficiently. I learned a lot about Bermuda before I went. Thank you for these guides. I don’t travel without my Fodor’s travel guides.

This must be the most fantastic book written about this island of outstanding beauty. It covers everything you could possibly wish to know and I mean everything. Based on the information in this gorgeous book, I have designed an itinerary for us which will permit us to see much of this lovely island during our stay. I can't extol this book enough. It's simply terrific.
