Epson WF-4740DTWF WorkForce Pro A4 Colour Multifunction Inkjet Printer

I run a business from home and have always used Epson printers, the last one lasted 3 years.This replacement Workforce Pro WF-4740 is fantastic, the print quality is great and the duplex scanning speed is good.Easy to set up although it took a while to find the Scanner App.

We run a small business and use the printer daily but usage is quite light. We were going through a Canon MX printer every 2 years. Running costs were low on compatibles but were forever having to wait for interminable cleaning cycles and was spending a lot of time sorting error codes and manually cleaning heads. Every 2 years dumping an expensive bit of kit for the sake of a replacement head or error codes stopping the printer in case the ink tray might be getting full. Decided to have a change for the sake of the environment. Have been running a couple of cheap and chearful Epson XP-335's as spare printers successfully on compatibles and they have been fine so having read good reviews purchased the Epson WF-4740.Initially very impressed, easy set up, good software, 2 input trays, quiet and very fast printing. We were surprised from the start how faint printing was with this printer. After a month or 2 noticed printing quality deteriorating. Cleaning heads didn't seem to help a lot and wouldn't clear the cyan, but did use a lot of very expensive ink. Persevered and eventually switched to compatibles. Print quality got steadily worse and dumped the printer after 5 months. Having a lot of ink in stock and assuming that we had at some time let the cyan run out we bought another WF-4740. After less than 2 months black started missing. Cleaning didn't help. We switched to printing only in high quality. THe printer has finally given up the ghost. 2 printers in the space of 10 months is a record for us. The heads just aren't up to the job.For the past 25 years I have been regularly using a little Canon bubblejet BJC85 run on compatibles without problem. Why are modern printers so crap?By way of an update. Persevered with this to use up some very expensive ink. After 15 months two printers have failed. Both finally stopped printing at all on the cyan. For atleast 90% of the time we have used these printers there have been problems with atleast one colour. Usually this is after changing a cartridge resulting in several hours with cleaning fluid trying to sort the problem. A very messy business. Print quality awful. Running costs extremely high. DO NOT BUY.

I have purchased epson printers without exception for the last 20 years; never again. This printer model is not fit for purpose. Genuine cartridges are expensive and you are constantly wasting ink by cleaning the head as quality is poor. Moved to compatibles but still same problem but now we have an error code 031008, which prevents it from printing at all. No solution, no tech support, clearly a known issue, waste of money....you have been warned and not just by me. I will NEVER BUY EPSON AGAIN!!!

A disaster of a product. Stopped working just over a month after purchase. Smudging, spilling, not printing....name it; it does it. Contact Epson and it was like the Spanish Inquisition.
