Great Press
First, I have to admit that I got the wrong size. I ordered this at the same time as a new espresso machine and did not realize that the cup on the machine was smaller than my old machine. That aside this is a really nice press. It has a heft to it that makes it easy to use and the angled weight works on gravity and makes it so that only a small amount of physical pressure it required for a good packing of the grounds. It is easy to clean, generally only requiring a good wipe down. If more is needed a good rinse under hot water does the job. I am not very well versed in how much other tampers/levelers cost but given the quality of this press I am happy with the price as I am pretty sure it won't need replaced for a very long time.

High Quality Tool - May Be Overboard for Novices
I am admittedly lazy when it comes to making espresso and do not know how much use I will get out of this distributor. It works as intended but if you are used to using a tamper regularly it may be overkill. I may use it when making drinks for friends and want the highest quality espresso pulls but will I reach for it when making my first drink of the day? Probably not.The quality is very good and is typical of all Normcore products I own.

Love the look, but the V-shape wedge is not as effective as the 5-blade wavy shape
While I like the way this one look, the V-shaped wedge doesn't always leave a nice smooth, flat bed, especially in the center. I prefer the Normcore Gravity Distribution Tool with the 5-blade base. I got the stainless steel version of that, but Normcore does have the black titanium version. I'm not 100% sure that this coating makes that big of a difference to warrant the price.I do love the walnut accent of this Gravity Distribution Tool and I wish Normcore has that for their other versions.

good value and quality for highly functional distributor
The media could not be loaded. I have been making espresso at home for over 20 years, and I have accumulated a lot of different coffee related gear. I have had multiple distributors and currently my go-to distributor is the Bravo Distributor. Seeing this new Normcore 58.5 distributor at this relatively low price, I thought I would give it a try.The distributor is well made. It comes with a rubber holder for you to place the distributor on. It also comes with a clear plastic basket that you can use to clearly see the distributor in action, interacting with the coffee grind as you turn the distributor. If anything, it is a great self-education tool. Previously I had to pay extra and jump through a lot of hoops to get a clear basket made with glass to test with my The Force Tamper. You can find my YouTube videos on this topic if you search on YouTube. As seen in pictures in this listing, you can see the V-shaped distributing surface. This is the key feature of the distributor. As it has a symmetric shape on both sides of the V, it does the exact same thing whether you turn it clockwise or counterclockwise. This is the key difference between this distributor versus more expensive distributors. As you turn this Normcore distributor, the V-shaped surface spread the coffee grind evenly across the basket and level the grind surface at the same time. Whereas more expensive distributors have asymmetrical surface and have different effects between turning clockwise and counterclockwise. For example, the Bravo Distributor pushes the grind to the edge of the basket when you turn it clockwise, and then it level the grind surface when you turn it counterclockwise. Is one better than the other? You will have to experiment with different distributors yourself. That is because everyone's workflow is different, beans are different, espresso machines are different. For me the espresso output from my Decent DE1Pro 1.3 with the beans I am using and my personal workflow, is about the same as my Bravo Distributor, which is a pleasant surprise.Note, this or other distributors, could be used to level and compress your grind instead of or together with using a tamper. So if you plan to upgrade or buy a new tamper, consider getting this Normcore Distributor and use it without a tamper. It will be a fun experiment. As for this Normcore distributor, I recommend it, for its features and its lower cost versus other more expensive distributors.
