This is the one to buy
I bought this to interface with some test equipment which had an RS-232 DB-9 port. Works great! It’s really well built and the (surprisingly long) cable is nice and sturdy. Even the port attachment screws are high quality. It showed up as an FTDI serial USB device on my Linux box without any extra drivers needed. It is even doing some pretty obscure DTR/DSR flow control.

Works with Windows 11
Best thing was that it worked with Windows 11 for my Radon monitor data download. Older cables would not work with Windows 11

Unfortunately the device just doesn't work. Figured it too late to return
My cable just doesn't work and it's too late for a return, unfortunately. I wish I could, though, or at least have it replaced.Another cable I bought, branded by TrendNet just worked out of the box with the same driver (uses same PL2303 internally).UPDATE: although the cable didn't work, the item has been fully refunded. The support was prompt to answer and the process was seamless.

Null Modem Cable - Linux Compatible
It’s unclear from the product description that this is a null modem cable. I needed a straight cable, so I used a null modem adapter. With the adapter the cable worked great. It’s of good quality. Worked with Linux without installing drivers and recognized immediately. Did what I needed.

Does not connect to a CIsco Switch
Answered Question for this item:Question: Can I use this for Cisco serial console to laptop ?Answer: Yes, compatibleBy CableCreation SELLER on January 30, 2019No, you cannot. I have tried the cable on two different Windows 10 computers and it will not coax a console prompt from the Cisco SG300-52P switch. I can access the web UI on the switch, but not the console.I have loaded the latest drivers from Prolific, the check driver utility detects the PL2303RA chipset on COM4I have Putty set for 115200, 8, 1, none, none as suggested. Opening the connection on COM4 does not error, it opens the terminal, I get a cursor, I press ENTER to wake up the console, and nothing happens. for 10's of minutes I have waited.I believe this cable is supposed to work (given the above Q/A from the Seller), and it probably does,, but can someone provide me with the magic incantation to make it so?I promise to revise my rating if you can make it work.It is otherwise a nice cable; it is built well, it is just the right shade of black, and all the connectors fit into their respective sockets. The tiny CD is pretty useless these days as no computer I am using has a CD drive installed, but being able to download drivers from the internet is really better anyway. Thanks!Well, I get to leave it review at 1 star. The seller's big response to me was to contact Cisco for more help. Thanks! No, the answer was to buy a small in-line db9 null model adapter and add it before the Cisco console.

Works for me.
I used this to connect both a Fluke 45 multimeter, and a Tektronix TDS2024 oscilloscope to my PC. I was able to get the appropriate software to communicate with each device and transfer data inorder to record it.Great fix for the price. A straight RS232 to USB cable did not work.
