Pages are on the thinner side, but good print quality
The pages on this calendar are meant to be torn away after each day, so it's not surprising the paper isn't super thick. However, it's thin enough to see the text through the next page and is kind of distracting. Aside from that, at the top of each page is a new word with the sounded out pronunciation beneath it. I wish there would've been a pronunciation guide in general that went much more into depth because a lot of these seem like extremely American pronunciations to the point I think if you made no effort outside of the calendar to work on it separately, you'd be getting laughed at behind your back. I've studied other languages but never French before, so I could be off base, but sounding them out seemed extremely American to me.Overall, this seemed decent for expanding your vocabulary, but I think I'd make sure to work on pronunciation separately.

Great Idea for a Great Gift
The Lonely Planet: French Phrasebook Day-to-Day Calendar is an excellent companion for anyone looking to enhance their French language skills while planning their next adventure. Each day features practical phrases and vocabulary that are perfect for travel, from ordering food to navigating public transport.I love that it encourages daily engagement with the language, making learning easy. The compact design is easy to stow away on your desk. Additionally, the calendar's blank pages for notes are handy for jotting down reminders or grocery lists. This makes it not just a learning tool but also a functional item for everyday use. Overall, it's a delightful way to immerse yourself in French culture and language and definitely a great gift for your next francophile.

Mainly for beginners
It's a great calendar, but almost all of the phrases are for beginners. I was hoping for more advanced phrases. It's only January, so maybe they will become more advanced as the year goes on. I am impressed that it shows correct pronunciation along with translation.

Phrases, Idioms, and Restaurant Terminology
The Lonely Planet: French Phrasebook 2025 Day-to-Day Calendar is probably what you expect. The phrases include both the usual travel-oriented phrases and also some idioms. Although the phrases are written out phonetically, I wouldn't rely solely on that to learn the pronunciation. I'm using an app to learn French and can see the phonetic translations are good but I can tell I would be unintelligible if I couldn't mimic the correct pronunciation including the accent from someone else first; I hope the phrases or at least the individual word pronunciations can be found on the Internet. The pages are good prompts for learning a new words and phrase in addition to reminders of the French for the month and day of the week. Weekends combine Saturday and Sunday on one page and focus on restaurant words and phrases with an additional "menu decoder" translation. Lonely Planet's publisher, Andrew McMeel has swapped the usual plastic backing for a thick cardboard stand which works very well once you make a couple of folds to set it up. The calendar covers holidays for several countries including the US.

Desk Calendar
The pages are a bit on the thinner side but it's okay for what it is. I look forward to using it throughout 2025 and learning basic French phrases along the way.

A Fantastic Way To Slowly Build Your Confidence And Knowledge In French Prior To Your Next Trip
The Lonely Planet: French Phrasebook 2025 Day-to-Day Calendar is a fantastic way to slowly build your knowledge of essential travel related words and phrases in French. Each day is a single tear away sheet of paper that includes the following:Day of the Week - written in English and FrenchDate- The Month is written in English and French while numbers reflect the specific date of the week and the yearPhrase- written in French, phonetic pronunciation, and the definition in EnglishHighlighted Word- written in English and French - a form of this word is used in the phrase of the dayThe phrases are intended to build your confidence to speak French on your next trip. From ordering food to visiting famous landmarks to navigating public transportation and even buying souvenirs - these phrases are all included. I especially liked that on the dates that discuss dining related phrases, the manufacturer thoughtfully included what they call, "menu decoder," which is an additional word that can relate to a food that may be on the menu. The manufacturer thoughtfully made a noticeable effort to ensure that this calendar is earth friendly and entirely recyclable. From making its easel backer be made from a sturdy chipboard backer that is recyclable to not wrapping the finished calendar in a single use plastic. On the back of each day, you can even write additional notes if you plan to keep the page or you can use it to write a shopping or to do list. Ultimately, I think that this would make a fantastic gift for a loved one learning French or refreshing their knowledge of the language for their upcoming trip.

Super useful!
I love the phonetic approach to learning a language, it just clicks for my brain. I've taken French in the past for multiple years but always meant to get back to it and advance past what I had before. So I know how things should sound and can sound them out seeing them written in French. The pages that I've perused so far have been correct and helpful, an extra 'r' at the end of sounds you wouldn't expect really helps to get the accent down and that little hack is going to be sticking with me for some time now. It's not exactly a pretty calendar, there are no pictures aside from the front, but it's useful and direct which suits me just fine.
