If on a budget and want dedicated portable gaming, this plays pc streams, most mobile emu's, and video playback happily
First and foremost, this merchant was extremely responsive, replying to my messages the same night I wrote them. That is worth its weight in gold, I find, when dealing with any kind of embedded system and when dealing with import goods.Second, the product itself is solid, thus far in my own testing. The software environment is a little odd to get used to. For example there are three different flavors of SNES Emulators out of the box, and they all have different input configurations, the most obvious choice also consequently being the worst (imagine A and X being reversed with B and Y while trying to play Super Nintendo games ...). They were all in English, though, in case you're looking this product up after seeing Linus Tech Tips' product review. However, the handheld runs Android 7, has Play Store and all my important purchased apps from there available to download, has very responsive controls, and has a surprisingly great LCD panel (you expect moving to a screen with less than half the resolution and easily 1/2" less diagonal size to be awful; it really isn't).Most of all, Since Valve released their Steam Link APK and since Moonlight (for nVidia Gamestreaming) is a several-years-mature app, I've been having a blast playing games (with 1440p resolution on the host machine) from my PC all day today, when at home. Next step is experimenting with VPN'ing so that I can do the GRID-gaming that nVidia hosts, instead with my own machine at home, but that probably won't be as pleasant. In short, the 2nd-gen refresh of the GPD XD+ overcomes the most glaring issues with the original product, the ecosystem is there, this hardware is formidable and more than enough for playing PUBG mobile (you *do* have to get creative with input schemes at times but even the vehicle-control with thumbstick totally worked!). Note that I bought this product and wasn't given any review hardware or anything. I wanted to get the GPD Win but I'm too cheap and I knew I just wanted to stream my heavier games from a desktop anyways. In summary, EXCELLENT for Steam In-Home Streaming (AAAAND the new Steam Link app) or for nVidia GameSteam over Moonlight APK. Also good for most Emulators up to the fifth/sixth gen consoles. Migrating to a MediaTek SOC and doubling the ram/storage yields a snappy system with all-day battery life (I unplugged this at around 8am today and the battery was still at about 14% when I plugged it in after 8pm, using it heavily but sporadically throughout the day. 6000MaH is roughly 2x the battery capacity of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, for context).Only real complaints would be (a ) "suuuuper clicky shoulder buttons with non-analog "triggers" and "no camera and no Google Assistant support" which I can totally live with, and (b ) "It's not a GPD Win" which you can tell by it being 2/3 as expensive (as 1st Gen Win), or 1/4 as expensive (as 2nd Gen Win).Edit: In the few weeks I've owned this thing, I've fallen in love with it. I now understand the keymapper button which allows you to bind touch controls to the physical buttons, thus making me far more formiddable in PUBG mobile. I'm loving the ability to pause any singleplayer title by closing the lid and resuming later, which means this device has been permanently *with* me for every long shopping outing, every line I've waited through, every slow phone call, and it's even helped me out of a jam or two at work.Note: as device has no camera, many app's will not want to download from play-store but if you stuff the APK's in dropbox or other storage you can totally sideload them without issue into the GPD XD+ and this has been helpful for grabbing a few productivity apps (like Google Authenticator).I feel like I really consolidate a lot of my efforts with this device. It has no business playing PC games from my home desktop, over-the-internet, as well as it does.

My favorite handheld Retro gaming device
This is a wonderful device for playing retro games. Plays the entire Gameboy family extremely well along with nes,Snes,N64 &PS1. I purchased my own emulators & Ui from the Google Play Store the stock ui and emu's are not great. The system itself compared to my 3ds's is very good better than I expected Joysticks are nicer than the 3ds and the dpad is on par with the 3ds and isn't horrible at all like I had read while researching before my purchase. Very comfortable for long gaming sessions pretty much identical to the New 3ds XL as far as size goes. Battery life is great a full day of gaming is no problem. This is a great choice for any retro gaming fan with some research you can play your favorite games from the past not to mention it's an android tablet as well. Now for my wishes more internal storage would be better and access to the sd memory card to swap apps and roms to it. The price is a little high but there is nothing of this quality so the competition is sparse. If you love retro gaming its definitely a good way to go.

Not cheap, but considering what you get, it's a great vaule
Legality and ethical talk not touched on, this is a great device. However, my unit suffered some screen stuttering issue in the center and the GPD logo was burnt in where it was faintly visible. This happened 2 months after receiving the device and out of the return window. So I had to contact the vendor directly and they were helpful. I had to pay for the shipping to send defective device back to them (but they promised to send a replacement and a carrying case for my trouble, I only received half what they promised) and when they received it, sent me another unit. So if you're unsure about their customer service, you know that they'll work with you to make things right. Anyway, the product itself is fine. Obviously inspiration is taken from another famous gaming handheld and nothing is wrong with that. The device has a nice screen and for the price, the screen resolution is impressive. The controls are spot on and even the joystick numbs felt fine for longer gaming sessions. The D pad felt mushy but it doesn't break the system. It runs android N so not the latest and greatest from the big G and don't hold your breath if you're expecting the newest AOS, don't hold your breath. Also, because of the nature of the product, apps like Netflix has blacklisted this device so you can't use that app, but you can use the web version of Netflix on the device. Overall this is a great retro emulation device with the sought after tactile buttons. SEGA, NEOGEO, among others, have released some of their classics on the AOS and we can all agree playing on it with your fingers sliding over a slippery glass sucks. This is the cure for that. All the classic consoles, games all in your pocket along with the benefits of a modern android device. Do you really need it? Let's just say that I always have my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ with me and I have a few emulators on it. But if I happen to have that and the GPD with me, I'll open up the GPD when I'm needing a retro game fix.

A lot of money but very nice product
This is great for retro games. Haven’t tried newer games so I can’t say how fast it is. The controls are solid. The battery life is great. Keep in mind a pretty cheap alternative for retro games would be to just use your Android phone with a bluetooth controller. I had an iPhone so that wasn’t really an option for me as iPhones suck for emulation.

Great device but needs more work
I will say that the battery life is amazing but playing Minecraft on it was a little butchered because FPS drops certain times but it’s still playable but needs improving but all in all it’s a great device

works okay ootb...
as a generic android tablet it be fine, over priced but fine.for most people who got this for gaming... well it is a great device ONCE you flash it, i have a custom ROM installed and now i find the gp xd plus a lot more usable. if you are not a tinkerer or expect a plug and play experience then I'd say stay away from this as even with standard emulators found i needed to setup different profiles for individual games. even following YouTube tutorials and reading up prior to purchasing device still found meself needing a couple of weeks of trial and error before i was happy with how my device was setup. so if you don't like mucking around with android settings internally and in app and also don't already have ROMs look elsewhere but if you're willing to roll up sleeves and get down and dirty it is very satisfying.battery life is awesome and now i look forward to places where i have long wait times as i can bust this bad boy out and just while away the time.perfect time to say caveat emptor

Slow charging and wrong power adapter
Fantastic versatile little emulating machine with an awesome form factorShipped (to Aus) with an American power adapter, and it charges painfully slow, which are both annoying. Otherwise good.

Exactly what it says it is
I actually really like the GPD XD Plus. It is exactly what I expected and a little more. It is basically a Android device that runs as a games emulator. I am new to the emulation world, and am using this rather than modding my Nintendo 2DS XL or Switch. I also like the various emulators that are available with the device as well as all the ones that can be found online. That being said many games for other systems work great, other require tweaking to play, some just don't play well (aka Gamecube games) at least as far as I have found so far. I love using this for all the movies I have from ripped DVD of mine to Flixster and Google Movies (I have over a hundred) and with a HDMI Mini -HDMI cable I can take a large library with me on the road to play on any TV/Monitor available to me. I impressed enough by this device that I am seriously considering looking at the GPD Win down the road.

Good device, a little expensive for it's specs
It's a great device for emulation but it costs too much for the specs. You could get an android phone with better specs and a Bluetooth controller at the same price and emulate on that. What you are paying for is the clamshell design and the built in controls. If that's what you want then this is a great device.
