iFixit Prying and Opening Tool Assortment

A simple but useful set of tools for opening and repairing an iPad. It was easy to follow the instructional videos on the ifixit site and it made a daunting task simple and achievable. They are nicely made and sturdy. Good value for money and helped complete a job that would have cost over £600 via the manufacturers repair service

I used the iFixit Prying Kit alongside my reliable iFixit screwdriver set to tackle my Legion laptop teardown. The fans were packed with dust and needed a good clean, and I was also installing an M.2 drive to fit some of my larger games. Despite Lenovo’s knack for making the Legion tricky to open, this prying kit made the whole process much smoother. The tools feel sturdy and well-made, giving me confidence I wouldn’t damage any of my expensive components. The picks are nice and thin, so I never struggled to get into those hard-to-reach seams. If you’re after more advanced disassembly, iFixit offers larger kits, but this basic prying set covered everything I required for my laptop. Honestly, without it, I doubt I’d have managed to open the chassis without risking a broken clip or scratched panel. For the quality and the purpose they served, I'm happy with the price.

Bought this kit to get into my laptop to replace the screen. The quality seemed to be very decent. I came up against a stretch release strip that I wasn't expecting. I couldn't get to the release tab, so I would have really struggled to get the LCD panel out without this kit. It was very useful for removing cable connectors as well. I'm very happy with the value for money. I'll use this kit again and again.

At face value, this toolset looks like a few bits of plastic. But, on using it, the various components are clearly perfectly designed for the job. (I wonder how many prototypes it took to get to the final version). They are also delicate or tough where needed - quite a bit of force was required for parts of my repair, but a couple of other actions were the opposite because there was a risk of slicing into the battery with too robust a tool. They let me into a Microsoft Surface Laptop to replace a defunct solid state drive. Surfaces look great but are the ultimate repair nightmare (everything flush, vital components under multiple other components which have to be removed first, swarms of parts, glue slapped on liberally). The replacement took an hour but, without this toolset, it would have been impossible to get anywhere. Even the laptop feet are hard to remove, yet have to be prised up because the four case screws are under them! Without this £8 toolset, a £250 (second-hand) laptop would have been electronic waste. Five stars for that alone.

The triangle tools were useful to hold open a screen. The small blue tool was okay, it didn’t fit well to open the screen and the corners kept going dull so I had no edge to get under the screen to pop it off. The other tools were similar, the plastic was very soft so I found it kept dulling down a bit. I got them to work for me in the end but it was a bit fiddly. I understand it’s supposed to break before the screen does but I couldn’t even pop the screen off. Ended up using a very small flat head screwdriver and then used this product to help with the rest.

I bought this tool set in order to safely open an old iPod classic to replace the battery. The small blue guitar picks just slipped between the case parts and in seconds the case was open and I was looking at the innards. I found the toolset very easy to use and it seems quite durable, it should get me through a few future projects, and I think this toolset would be an excellent addition to anyone, hobbyist or professional.

Buen producto. Lo he usado recién para poder abrir un portátil y es muy útil para poder quitar la tapa sin romper los clips, el "lápiz" para poder desconectar los cables de tarjeta madre, etc. Mucho mejor que fiarse de una tarjeta bancaria que ya no utilizas
