Still Going After 11 Years!
I bought this nifty MP3 player way back in 2008 so I could listen to music while I worked. The player worked well and did what I expected it to. Throughout the years, it started to become slow and the battery life was awful when I would start it up so eventually I did get a Sansa Fuze to use while this was in storage for several years.Once my Sansa Fuze started to die (I was so, so sad when it happened) I didn't want to buy another mp3 player quite yet and wanted to use my c250 again to try to save up some money. I tried putting in a bigger memory but just doing that in and of itself didn't help and I couldn't listen to any of the songs on the memory. After reading some reviews about RockBox I installed that into my c250 and it is a whole new world! It is much faster to start up and I can add a whole lot more songs into it! The battery still stinks but since I can charge and listen to it at the same time I haven't had any issues. After 11 years it's still going and I am quite content with it.

Don't buy - just trying to unload
This is a discontinued item. This particular unit had been on the shelf for a while. The foam earphone covers disintegrated to dust upon touch. I had never seen that before. The real problem was the battery was bad and would not charge. It must have been a poorly manufactured model because it is not offered new anymore and is only being offered on a few sites for more than I paid for this unit. I guess they need to move their current inventory and are looking for more suckers. Oh well.

Caveat: Make sure it's a V1 and install RockBox!
I bought my Sansa c250 a couple years ago. I used it lightly for playing MP3s but more heavily as an FM radio to listen to NPR on long bus rides. Recently the battery started not to hold a charge for very long. A little searching on the web yielded two important results:1. The USB cable that comes with the c250 doesn't do a great job charging. I bought the Belkin Charging Kit for SanDisk Sansa c200, e200, View, Connect and Fuze and now it charges faster and more thoroughly.2. I "upgraded" the firmware to RockBox (see [...]). The Sansa C250 is one of the best supported devices. The battery management in RockBox helped revive my aging battery. It also gave me OGG and FLAC playback support, the ability to use > 2GB MicroSD cards in my Sansa C250 V1 (the Sansa firmware supports only < 2GB), and a collection of games I can play while listening to music. After these upgrades, I found myself using my C250 even more. I ended up buying a second battery, HQRP Replacement Battery for Sandisk Sansa C200 C240 C250 MP3 Player plus HQRP Universal Screen Protector , and a new pair of ear buds: Sennheiser CX300-B Earbuds (Black) .All-in-all, I probably spent about $40 and have turned my aging Sansa c250 in a great device that's getting more use than ever. I may buy a second one for a backup!Update: I lost my orignal Sansa C250 on a trip a little while back. Because I had so many accessories (extra battery, chargers, etc.) I opted to order a new one from Amazon. It was fulfilled by BlueProton. The one they sent me was in the original packaging (i.e., perfectly new) and V1! I was afraid that I'd get a V2 and wouldn't be able to upgrade to RockBox. I'm quite happy that I opted to a 4-year old MP3 player instead of some flashy new device. Of course that really says something about the technology here: A 4-5 year old MP3 player is perfectly adequate (if not great) even compared to the latest offering from the fruit-named company. I do need to replace my Sennheiser head phones. Evidently a huge black market has arisen for those so I'll have to be careful.

Be Careful As Support is Limited
I received and returned this product on consecutive days. The first time I connected the device to the computer to charge the battery and transfer an audiobook file to the media it seemed to be fine. When I attempted to find the file I transferred for playback I ran into problems locating the file, and thinking I probably placed the file in the wrong location, I reconnected via the USB cable and got nothing but a screen with the SANSA logo, and the device never showed up on the desktop. Device was for all practical purposes DOA.But that's not my biggest issue with the product. DOA events sometime happen. My issue is that I sought to receive some tech help from Sansa prior to returning the product. Perhaps there might me a button sequence or similar that would reset/restore the device -- I really wanted it to work. A phone call to tech support, though, was a real shocker. Since this device is already considered a "Legacy" product by Sansa they no longer provide telephone support, or live messaging support. The only help available is via a FAQ type board and email. I think this model is only about 2 years old -- is it SOP for companies to withdraw full support for a product that's only been the market for such a short time? And, is a good idea for Amazon to be marketing a product that's already been sent out to pasture by the manufacturer. Shame on both of them as far as I'm concerned. BTW, I returned the product and bought a Sansa Clip +2. It probably won't be considered a "Legacy" device for another 6 months or so.
