Hello. I am not exactly a chemist but I was a laboratory technician of over 40 years. The formula for the Citirc Acid is C6H8O7 The formula for trisodium phosphate is Na3PO4 So my feeling is that NO they are not the same thing. When I have looked it up trisodium phosphate is used for the purpose of cleaning and chlorination. Quite possibly what they use in swimming pools? Citric acid is added to culinary things to make them too acidic for bacteria to grow while remaining safe and palatable for humans to consume. Certainly my elderflower cordial is delicious. I have used this citric acid as its preservative and do not appear to have suffered any adverse reactions so far. I hope this helps. Merry Christmas

Can it be used in wine making?

Citric acid plus a campden tablet can be used to clean/sterilise demijohns, fermentation licks etc. Also if making wine from flowers, elderflower, honeysuckle etc, it can be used to augment lemons to provide acidity necessary for fermentation to occur.
